Planting - tools; hand-tools for depositing manure. - An appliance for distributing seeds or manures along drills consists of a body or receptacle provided w i t h means for throwing it into vibration when it is drawn along a cord, rod, or the like. The receptacle may be made of sheet tin, prepared paper, celluloid, &c., and of the form shown in plan in Fig. 1. The walls c are doubled over to form flanges which project below the base to engage with the guide-cord used in forming the seed drill. A cover-plate e may be provided at the rear end. Converging vanes are adjustably clipped to the side walls and form an adjustable outlet h through which the seeds &c. pass when the receptacle is inclined slightly. The bottom of the receptacle a may be roughened or ribbed, and provided with a depression near the rear end. A number of such appliances may be arranged in sets and adapted to pack inside one another. In the modification shown in Fig. 8, a single central rib d<1> is provided on the underside for setting up the vibration. In another, the rib d<1> is replaced by a spring blade or wire.
