Soft caps for absorbing player impact against dasher boards are disclosed. The soft cap can include an elongated body defining a number of absorption ribs and channels for absorbing impact forces against the dasher board. The elongated body can be formed from a material having a relatively low durometer adapted to displace and absorb the impact energy when a player strikes the dasher board, One or more curved sections of the elongated body can be configured to fit adjacent to the hard edges of the dasher board. The soft cap can be provided as part of a dasher board assembly including a lower frame assembly and a number of upper shielding panes.

RINK SAFETY SYSTEM AND PROCEDURE

A movable dasher board system optimizes user safety in a hockey rink or similar arena. A bottom structure, provided by a sliding bottom surface or roller assembly, has low friction characteristics, typically a µs of 0.05 or less with respect to ice if a sliding surface, or if roller bearings an effective coefficient of rolling friction 0.04 or less. A dasher board assembly is operatively connected to and extends upwardly from the bottom structure. Biasing and impact force absorbing devices (such as pneumatic or hydraulic or spring-encasing telescoping tubes, or foam, gel, or compression springs) bias the bottom structure and dasher board assembly to a desired position and absorb the impact of a human hitting the dasher board assembly to minimize the possibility of injury to the human. The system may be installed in a pre-existing rink or other arena.

Disclosed is a dasher-boards assembly with capability to absorb impacts of players crashing into the boards. The glass pane surmounting the boards can tip away from the ice, against a spring, and then resiliently return to its normal (upright) position. The spring is a bar-spring, which not only is deflectable to provide the resilience, but also has the capability to support and position the pane with respect to the dasher-board. The bar-spring can be used when the pane is flush-mounted with respect to the dasher-board, or when the pane is set-back from the ice-side of the dasher-board.

A method of assembling a portable fenced-in ball playing area that includes a plurality of panels that have an upward slot on one end of the panel and a downward slot at the other end of the panel. The panels are assembled into a polygon shaped pit, such as for a Ga-ga pit, by fitment of upward and downward slots on adjacent panels. No tools are necessary for assembly. The panels can include hand holes for easy carrying. Some panels may have a top indentation or recess to assist children in entering or leaving the fenced-in ball playing area, such as a Ga-ga pit. These panels can be reversed so that the recess is facing downward to form a goal opening for a game using a ball, puck or the like.

SPRAYING APPARATUS

A spraying apparatus which is particularly suitable for painting stripes on pavement, grass or the like. The apparatus includes a wheeled frame and an upwardly extending handle for pushing the frame over the surface that is to be marked. The frame includes a base plate which is provided with an opening to receive the valve end of an inverted aerosol spray can, and side plates extend from the base plate to maintain the can in a substantially upright position. The valve of the can is actuated by a slide plate which is slidably secured to the base plate, and sliding movement of the slide plate is effected by a bell crank which is rotatably mounted on the frame.
