The present invention relates to an electro-optical system for double document detection wherein an improved calibration is employed. To calibrate the system, a microcontroller generates a series of increasingly wider pulses, which are transformed into a series of respective increasingly higher ramp pulses to drive a light emitter (LED, a laser diode or fiber optic coupled laser) at gradually increased power until the predetermined value of an output signal of the light detector (photo-transistor) is achieved. Le procédé pour la détection de plis en prise multiple dans une installation de tri postal (1) consiste à détecter une variation de longueur de chaque pli en faisant passer chaque pli dans une pluralité de détecteurs de passage (4, 5, 6, 7). Les détecteurs de passage sont situés en différents points de l'installation de tri (1) et sont configurés pour évaluer la longueur de chaque pli. Durant leur trajet dans l'installation de tri, les plis en prise multiple se décalent progressivement les uns par rapport aux autres du fait notamment des frottements mécaniques. Ainsi, la longueur globale des prises multiples a tendance à varier, de telle sorte qu'une évaluation de la variation de longueur de chaque pli fournit une information fiable pour détecter les prises multiples. L'évaluation de la longueur d'un pli étant relativement simple à mettre en oeuvre, les performances de l'installation sont améliorées pour un faible coût.

In some cases the stripper members may be driven so as to move notes engaged therewith relative to a note engaged with the stripper member so as to reorient the notes and facilitate note separation in subsequent picking events.

Apparatus for monitoring sheet feed in printing machines

A detecting capacitive structure undergoes changes in capacitance value depending upon whether it is detecting, in the sheet transport path of a printing machine, a normal or single sheet, an absent sheet, or a double or stuck-together sheet, so that corrective action can be initiated, such as the skipping of a printing cycle. The detecting capacitive structure and also a reference capacitive structure constitute the capacitances of two RC circuit stages to which an input signal is applied and then removed. The variations with respect to time of the output signals from the two RC circuit stages are then compared, both during application of the input signal and subsequent to removal of the input signal. This comparison of time responses of the two RC circuit stages serves as the basis of the detection. The effect of the normal, absent or double sheet upon capacitance value is detected by monitoring a response dependent upon the time-constants of the RC circuit stages, without the detecting capacitive structure forming the capacitor of or resonant circuit.

A method of measuring properties of a moving cellulose, paper or board sheet. A first parameter of a first resonance caused by the moving sheet in a frequency range 1 GHz to 25 GHz of electromagnetic radiation is measured. A second parameter of an electromagnetic signal transmitted between at least a pair of transceiver parts of a transceiver sensor located on opposite sides of the moving sheet through the moving sheet is measured in a frequency range 25 GHz to 1000 GHz. A minimum difference between the frequency ranges related to the first parameter and the second parameter being at least 5 GHz. Both the dry stuff content and the weight of water per unit of area are determined on the basis of the first parameter, the second parameter and available information related to a distance travelled by the electromagnetic signal.

The feeder is supplied with suction pads (13) which take the sheets (6) from the stack (3). The feeder picks up individual sheets and deposits them on the table (7) in contact with the feed roller (8) just before releasing them. Each sheet passes over a photo electric cell (14) which detects double sheets by the reduced light intensity coming from the light source (15). Single sheets pass through the printing rollers (9) and (10) and are stacked for binding in the bin (4). Double sheets will cause the printer to stop.
