An anchoring system for securing a catheter to a patient includes an anchor pad and a retainer. The retainer is supported by the anchor pad and includes a base and a cover. A groove upon the base is arranged to receive a branching site of a catheter where the lumens merge distal to the insertion site. One or more posts also protrude from the base to the cover at a position which will be disposed between the two distal branches of the catheter. The cover closes over the base, securing the branching site between the groove and the posts. The contact between the retainer and catheter thereby inhibits inadvertent motion of the catheter upon the patient. A latch mechanism is disposed upon the retainer to maintain the cover in a closed position over the branching site of the catheter on the base.

Each of the retainer 102 and the clamp 104 include at least one abutment surface that can abut against a contact point or surface on the medical article. The abutments inhibit motion of the medical article in proximal and distal directions through the channel when the clamp 104 is tightened against the retainer 102 . The securement system may be designed for single or multi-use.

Disclosed herein are embodiments of a sanitary fitting for coupling a fluid conduit to a flexible container to facilitate sterile transfer therebetween, and methods of making and using such a sanitary fitting, whereby the sanitary fitting includes a first annular member having a first annular member bore extending between first annular member first and second ends, the first annular member second end terminating in a flange radially outwardly extending therefrom, the flange comprising a substantially planar face; a second annular member having a second annular member bore extending between second annular member first and second ends, the second annular member couplable to the first annular member to axially align the first and second annular member bores to provide a first fluid flow passageway; and a valve coupled to the second annular member, the valve operable to interrupt fluid flow through a fluid flow path which includes the first fluid flow passageway.

An anchoring system for securing a catheter to a patient includes an anchor pad and a retainer. The retainer is supported by the anchor pad and may include a base and a cover. A groove upon the base can be arranged to receive a branching site of a catheter where the lumens merge distal to the insertion site. One or more posts may also protrude from the base to the cover at a position disposed between the two distal branches of the catheter. The cover closes over the base securing the branching site between the groove and the posts. The contact between the retainer and catheter thereby inhibits inadvertent motion of the catheter upon the patient. A latch mechanism may be disposed upon the retainer to maintain the cover in a closed position over the branching site of the catheter on the base.

A method includes inserting a catheter ( 10 ), draining a fluid (F) into a collection device ( 50 ) via a conduit ( 40 ), and introducing gas (G) into the conduit ( 40 ) so as to force fluid (F) remaining in the conduit ( 40 ) into the collection device ( 50 ).
