A biodelivery system has been found which increases the efficiency and effectiveness of introducing antimicrobial compounds into complex biofilm matrices through the use of liposome carriers, thereby removing the biofouling in industrial water bearing systems, including piping, heat exchanges, condensers, filtration systems and fluid storage tanks. According to one embodiment of the invention, antimicrobial compound containing liposomes are added to water systems prone to biofouling and biofilm formation. The liposomes, being similar in composition to microbial membranes or cells, are readily incorporated into the existing biofilm. Once the antimicrobial compound containing liposomes become entrained with the biofilm matrix, the decomposition or disintegration of the liposome proceeds. Thereafter the biocidal core is released to react directly with the biofilm encased microorganisms. Upon the death of the organisms, the matrix decomposes and thereby results in reduced fouling of the water bearing system, resulting in increased heat transfer, increased flux, less deposit of colloidal and particulate solids and dissolved organics on the surface of the microfiltration membrane, thereby reducing the frequency and duration of the membrane cleaning and ultimate replacement.

An antimicrobial wipe that contains a polymer coating having a synergistic combination of ingredients for providing controlled release of an antimicrobial agent and also good antimicrobial efficacy is provided. One such ingredient is a high molecular weight polyamideamine release agent. Due to the polycationic nature of the release agent, it is able to adhere to the wipe, which is generally formed from fibers having a negative surface charge (e.g., cellulosic fibers). In this manner, the release agent can occupy binding sites on the wipe to inhibit the antimicrobial agent from adhering thereto, thus allowing it to be expressed in the germicidal solution to kill microbes on the desired surface. The adherence of the release agent to the wipe is even further enhanced by crosslinking the polyamideamine to increase its molecular weight, thereby enabling it to form a structural network that physically adheres to the wipe and that blocks the antimicrobial agent from binding thereto. Furthermore, the polyamideamine is amidated so that it contains secondary and/or tertiary amides. A cell permeabilizer is also employed in the polymer coating to enhance the efficacy of the antimicrobial agent during use. More particularly, polycationic materials are particularly useful in permeabilizing the outer cell membrane without adversely impacting the ability of the polyamideamine to release the antimicrobial agent within the wipe.

Previous research demonstrated that aflatoxin contamination in corn is reduced by field application of wheat grains pre-inoculated with the non-aflatoxigenic Aspergillus flavus strain NRRL 30797. We evaluated the reliability and efficiency of replacing wheat grains with the novel bioplastic formulation Mater-Bi® to serve as a carrier matrix to formulate strain NRRL 30797. Mater-Bi® granules were inoculated with a conidial suspension of NRRL 30797 to achieve a final cell density of ˜log 7 conidia/granule. Incubation of 20-g soil samples receiving a single Mater-Bi® granule for 60-days resulted in log 4.2 to 5.3 propagules of A. flavus /g soil for microbiologically active and sterilized soil, respectively. The bioplastic formulation was highly stable; Mater-Bi® is a suitable substitute for biocontrol applications of A. flavus NRRL 30797.

When applied to a textile article, the particles form a uniform coating, which prevents the growth of bacteria and microbes. An agricultural adjuvant composition includes (a) one or more first nonionic surfactants selected from the group consisting of fatty acid glycol ester surfactants, polyalkoxylated triglyceride surfactants, alkoxylated fatty alcohol surfactants, and sorbitan fatty acid ester surfactants, (b) at least one of: (b)(i) one or more second nonionic surfactants selected from the group consisting of polyalkoxylated alkylphenol surfactants, polyalkoxylated alkarylphenol surfactants, amine oxide surfactants, alkanolamide surfactants, glycoside surfactants, and ethylene/propylene block copolymers, and (b)(ii) one or more anionic components selected from the group consisting of anionic surfactants and polyanionic polymers, (c) optionally, a liquid medium comprising one or more fatty acid (C-C)alkyl esters, optionally, one or more water soluble deposition aid polymers, and (e) optionally, one or more thickening agents. 1. This invention relates to the use of selected adjuvants to improve the performance of S-(+)-abscisic acid (S-ABA, ABA) or ABA salts on plants. 1. A method for enhancing and extending the time of transpiration inhibition of abscisic acid (ABA) or salts thereof on plants by applying a composition comprising from about 0.1 ppm to about 1000 ppm of ABA or salts thereof and from about 0.01% w/w to about 0.5% w/w of at least one surfactant selected from the group consisting of Brij 58 , Brij 76 , Brij 78 , Brij 98 , Agral 90 and Latron B-1956 (a phthalic/glycol alkyl resin) to plants.2. The method of wherein the composition further comprises a fertilizer.3. The method of wherein the surfactant is selected from the group consisting of Brij 98 claim 1 , Agral 90 and Latron B-1956.4.
