An article of footwear has an upper and a sole structure secured to the upper. The upper includes a knitted component and, in some configurations, a skin layer secured to the knitted component. The knitted component may have a plurality of protruding areas that extend outward and away from a void within the upper for receiving a foot of a wearer. A method of constructing footwear comprising:providing a mold having an inner cavity;injecting an expandable material into the inner cavity;removing the expandable material from the inner cavity, such that the material expands to form a footwear-shaped shell, the shell having an inner cavity and at least one recessed area offset from an inner surface of the shell; andinserting a chassis within the inner cavity of the expanded shell, the chassis having one or more components adapted to protect a user's foot from injury, wherein insertion of the chassis within the shell permanently affixes the one or more components within the at least one recessed area of the shell.2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein inserting the chassis within the inner cavity of the shell comprises positioning a stop surface of the one or more components so that it interferes with a stop surface arranged adjacent the at least one recessed area.3. The method according to claim 2 , wherein interference between the stop surfaces secures the one or more components within the at least one recessed area.4. The deformable element includes at least one peg extending outward toward the outer layer. The method includes inserting the peg through the outer layer so that the peg extends through the outer layer and is exposed at an exterior surface of the outer layer. An article of footwear or another product may incorporate a pressure chamber that includes (a) a bladder at least partially formed from a polymer material that is sealed to enclose a pressurized fluid and (b) a strand wound around the bladder and secured to the bladder. In manufacturing the pressure chamber, a bladder with an elongate configuration may be formed. A strand is wound around the bladder, and the strand is secured to the bladder. When incorporated to a sole structure of the article of footwear, for example, a portion of the bladder that includes the strands may be exposed at an outer surface of the sole structure. 1. An article of footwear includes an upper and an adjustable lacing system. The adjustable lacing system includes a plurality of fastener engaging elements located at the medial and lateral sides of the upper, where at least one of the medial side and the lateral side includes sets of fastener engaging elements. Each set of fastener engaging elements is distanced from another set in a direction transverse a lengthwise direction of the upper, and the fastener engaging elements are configured to engage with and retain a fastener structure that extends between the medial and lateral sides of the upper such that the fastener structure can be selectively engaged with different sets of fastener engaging elements to adjust a fit of the upper around a width of the foot disposed within the cavity.

A convertible shoe comprising a flexible toe box, capable of being worn in closed toe mode or open toe mode. The flexible toe box covers the wearer's toes in closed toe mode. A method and apparatus for footwear moulding

The present invention provides a method of moulding a mouldable reinforcing element of an item of footwear (12). The method comprises the steps of: providing a microwave heatable mouldable reinforcing element and locating said element at an appropriate location as part of an item of footwear (12); positioning the item of footwear (12) on a last (17) to hold the item of footwear (12) in an appropriate shape; locating the item of footwear (12) in a microwave field within a microwave chamber (2) that contains the microwave field and thereby heating the mouldable reinforcing element to a temperature at which it is mouldable; and moving the appropriate location of the item of footwear (12) relative to the microwave field during said heating. The method is particularly advantageous over prior art microwave methods for moulding footwear in that it does not require specific control of the microwave field and it does not require the use of external moulds. The present invention also provides a heater (1) for moulding footwear comprising a chamber (2), a microwave generator (7) and apparatus (6) for moving an item of footwear (12) located in the chamber (2) relative to a microwave field generated by the microwave generator (7).

An article of footwear or another product may incorporate a pressure chamber that includes (a) a bladder at least partially formed from a polymer material that is sealed to enclose a pressurized fluid and (b) a strand wound around the bladder and secured to the bladder. In manufacturing the pressure chamber, a bladder with an elongate configuration may be formed. A strand is wound around the bladder, and the strand is secured to the bladder. When incorporated to a sole structure of the article of footwear, for example, a portion of the bladder that includes the strands may be exposed at an outer surface of the sole structure.
