Described herein is a surgical device configured for performing minimally invasive surgical procedures through a single incision via an introducer that allows one or more robotic main arm and two to four robotic secondary arms to be inserted into the insufflated surgical site. The main arm is capable of being inserted into and withdrawn from the insufflated surgical site autonomously, having the surgical tool at its distal end replaced autonomously, having five degrees of freedom, and having a diameter larger thanthat of a secondary arm. The secondary arms are capable of being inserted into and withdrawn from the insufflated surgical site autonomously and having four degrees of freedom. In the preferred embodiment the introducer is configured to allow one main arm and four secondary arms. In other embodiments the introducer allows for one or more main arms of varying diameters and one or more secondary arms of a smaller diameter.

The first light source has a high color rendering index so as to enable objects, such as tissues, to appear in their true color, and the second light source has a low or non-definable color rendering index, so as enable accentuation of particular tissues.

An illuminated microsurgical instrument comprising:a microsurgical instrument having a tubular member arranged to treat patient tissue at a surgical site, the tubular member having a distal tip and an outer surface; andan optical fiber arranged to deliver light to the surgical site, the optical fiber including a proximal end arranged to receive a light beam from a light source and also including a distal end with a fiber distal tip that includes a beveled end arranged to refract light away from the tubular member outer surface.2. A light guide bender (also referred to as an optical tube bender) is provided including an integrated bending mechanism that allows the surgical tube to be bent to the appropriate length (e.g., matching the retractor height). By bending the tube at an angle, potential obstruction caused by the optical fiber is reduced and the need to create various lengths of optical tubing is also eliminated. Enhanced targeting systems and methods may be used to visualize trajectories for surgical instruments. Such a targeting system may have a first light source and a second light source.
