Catheters and their uses for vascular access to a patient are described. The catheter comprises an arterial lumen and a venous lumen which run along the shaft of the catheter for most of the length. Near the catheter tip, the two lumens can twist around the longitudinal axis of the catheter. The catheter shaft has two openings, one where the arterial lumen begins the twist and another about 180 degrees into the twist. The catheter shaft also contains an opening for the venous lumen near the nose of the catheter shaft. The orientation of the arterial lumen opening on opposite sides of the shaft eliminates the possibility of side port occlusions since the catheter can't be pressed against a vessel wall that blocks both suction openings simultaneously. And using these openings at each point reduces the chance of occlusion due to blood clots and fibrin sheaths. Other embodiments are described.

An aspiration thrombectomy catheter system includes an aspirator and an aspiration catheter for insertion in a blood vessel. The catheter has a shaft with a proximal end for connection with the aspirator and a tapering distal end with a tip for insertion in the vessel. A plurality of aspiration ports are arranged in sets along the tapering distal end, for aspirating thrombus from the vessel. At least one aspiration lumens within the shaft conducts thrombus from the vessel, through the aspiration ports, to the aspirator. Variably sized or shaped ports provide differing aspiration vectors for enhanced thrombus removal. The aspiration thrombectomy catheter additionally provides for uniform drug dispersion at a thrombotic area, alone or in combination with aspiration of the thrombus. In the event of an adverse reaction, drug dosage may be easily reduced by aspirating dispersed drugs back into the catheter.

A hemodialysis split-tip catheter comprises an elongated portion, a proximal end and a distal end defining a longitudinal axis. The proximal end attaches to a hub with suture wings assembly, which in turn connected to extension tubings. The distal end has two distal tip segments splitted from each other. The first distal tip segment has a concave shape with respect to the longitudinal axis and the second distal tip segment has an approximately J-shape with respect to first distal tip segment. Diameter of concave shape of first distal tip segment is larger than diameter of J-shape of second distal tip segment to facilitate backward bend of second distal tip segment with respect to first distal tip segment after a catheter insertion inside a blood vessel to face a blood flow direction. 1.
