One or more overflow channels also empty into the vicinity of the heavier phase, in the overflow weir to divert the lighter phase separated in the initial mixing-and-separation compartment into another and subsequent mixing-and-separation compartment. The design creates several highly efficient contact points in the vicinity of the mixing zone that enhance the extracting action.

A screw type centrifugal liquid separation machine having a continuous decanter and using pressurized air to promote solids transport is provided. The machine has an outer bowl and a conveyor, which are coaxial. A back drive assembly is provided to maintain a difference in speed between the bowl and conveyor so that the conveyor has a mechanical sweeping action within a separation region of the machine. Air is introduced into the machine through the back drive assembly, and is injected into the heavy phase discharge path. In one location, the air acts as a turbulence inducer that at least partially re-suspends grits within the heavy phase material. The air is also injected through lift injectors radially spaced about the solids baffle to provide a uniform solid phase driving force. A flow control is also provided for controlling the discharge rate of the heavy phase material through a discharge port.

The invention relates to a decanter centrifuge with a rotating bowl (1) provided with at least one solids discharge port (11) and at least one clarified liquid discharge port (15) and a screw conveyor (2) disposed coaxially within said rotating bowl rotated in the same direction with a differential rotational speed, where a feed suspension to be separated is introduced into a ring shaped space formed between said rotating bowl (1) and said screw conveyor (2) through a central feed pipe fixed to the end of the screw conveyor and supported in at least one bearing and can be separated by centrifugal force into a solid and a liquid phase so that said solid phase is discharged from said solid discharge port and said liquid phase is discharged from said clarified liquid discharging apparatus. According to the present invention it is charakterized by a liquid phase conduit (4) arranged in the hollow shaft of the rotating bowl (1) guiding the liquid phase outside of the bearings (16, 18), a liquid phase discharge valve (14) provided outside the bearing on the side facing away from the bowl (1) and screw (2) and a sealing (6) at the end of the feed pipe (10) surrounded by the liquid phase conduit. So it is possible to pressurise the system and to use the pressure from the feed pump to support the cake transport in the solids transporting part of the bowl, thereby eliminating the need for variable speed conveyor control and equipment.

A high speed centrifuge which incorporates an elongate conic rotatable housing (11, 12). The housing is centered around a feed tube (10) which delivers a feed liquid into the housing having heavier particles to enable separation. A multi flite conveyor (25) positioned in the housing scrolls heavier particles along the housing toward the tapered end of the housing. An internal surface in the housing defines a pond subject to centrifugal rotation. The conveyor is adjacent to a stack of closely spaced disks (48) which extend into the pond and have spaces therebetween so that liquid in the pond flows between the disks toward the top of the pond while heavier particles migrate through or between the disks and are centrifugally accumulated outside the disks. The conveyor forces heavier particles for scrolling toward the tapered end of the housing.

A decanter centrifuge with a rotating bowl has one solids discharge port, one clarified liquid discharge port and a screw conveyor. A feed suspension is separated by centrifugal force into a solid phase and a liquid phase so that the solid phase is discharged from the solid discharge port and the liquid phase is discharged from a clarified liquid discharging apparatus. A sealing of the feed pipe and the bowl shaft is provided as adjacent double axial sealing. A liquid phase conduit is arranged in the bowl shaft for guiding the liquid phase outside of the bearings, and a liquid phase valve is provided outside the bearing on the side facing away from the bowl and screw. In this way the liquid phase discharge valve can be varied during operation of the decanter centrifuge by a hand wheel via a transmission or by a motor.

A decanter centrifuge is provided with a rotatable bowl and a coaxially-mounted conveyor which is adapted for rotation at a differential speed with respect to the bowl. The overall structure of the centrifuge serves to decrease the likelihood of washout is rotodynamically stiffer and thus less prone to vibration, is lighter and less expensive in construction and creates a stable operation.

A horizontal centrifuge, method and system of use, recovers weighting materials from a returned drilling fluid slurry. A clean fluid is delivered, through a clean fluid pipe arranged axially at the hub, to solids discharge ports. The clean fluid is directed radially and circumferentially outwardly at the discharge ports for mixing homogeneously with the recovered weighting materials from forming a reconstituted weighted drilling mud. The reconstituted weighted drilling mud can then be delivered to a rig mud tank for use in a drilling operation. In the system, a drilling fluid and low gravity solids, which are separated from the weighting materials in the horizontal centrifuge, being a first centrifuge, are directed to a second centrifuge which is capable of removing the low gravity solids, thereby producing a clean fluid. The clean fluid is recycled to the first centrifuge for delivery through the clean fluid pipe.

SUBSTANCE: the sedimentation centrifuge has a rotor, a worm positioned inside the rotor and having a drum with at least a single spiral secured on it, and a guide partition between its spires. It is located in the zone between the heavy fraction inlet and outlet ports in a spaced relation to the rotor. The guide partition is made in the form of a spiral-like rib for entrainment and transportation of heavy fraction similarly to the worm spiral spires. This partition has a height lesser than that of the spiral spire, and a peripheral part describing the enveloping surface at worm rotation. A centrifuge for sepg. slurries has an outer casing with an inner drum from which the thickened material is periodically removed through apertures whose opening and closing is controlled by a device which rotates w.r.t. the drum. This rotation is derived from differential drive mechanism which can be adjusted to the materials involved. The controlling device can be inside or outside the drum, and may be a disc whose movements free the exit apertures for thickened slurry. The apertures may be in nozzle bodies screwed from the outside into the drum, with an insert of wear-resistant material. The centrifuge may be of the worn type or a rotary separator. The controlling device is simple, needs no precisely made components, and has high wear resistance. Known valve units , and irregular opening causes damaging are complex, whereas known controls with closure effected by sudden acceleration and deceleration are subject to damaging inertia forces.

In this way the liquid phase discharge valve can be varied during operation of the decanter centrifuge by a hand wheel via a transmission or by a motor.

This invention relates to centrifugal separators but more particularly to a solid bowl centrifugal separator for seperating a coarse solids fraction, a fine solids fraction and one or two liquid fractions having different specific gravities from feed comprising a liquid-solids mixture. The present invention relates to a solid bowl centrifugal separator which comprises an elongated bowl tapered at both ends and mounted for rotation about an axis. Coaxially mounted within the bowl is a helical screw conveyor having portions of opposite pitch to transport each of the two solids fractions towards their respective discharge ports located in the tapered ends of the bowl. Means are also provided for the discharge from the bowl of two liquid fractions of differing specific gravity. Each of the fractions in discharged into separate segments in the collector casing. More efficient separation is accomplished and efficient separation may be achieved in a single centrifuging step where heretofore two or more consecutive contrifuging operations were required.

The suspension is centrifuged about a substantially vertical axis of rotation to concentrate solid components in a first lower flow stream and fluid components in a first upper flow stream. The first upper flow stream may be centrifuged about a substantially vertical axis of rotation to concentrate solid components in a second lower flow stream and fluid components in a second upper flow stream. The first lower flow stream, the second lower flow stream, or both, may be centrifuged about a substantially horizontal axis of rotation to separate water from stackable dry tailings. The method and system may be applied to separation of tailings or other suspensions.

A full jacket-worm centrifuge is disclosed for continuous separation of water-sludge mixtures. The centrifuge has a cylindrical drum jacket with a conically tapered portion in a direction of a solid matter discharge. A worm conveyor having cylindrical and conical portions is arranged within the drum jacket. Between a slurry inlet on the drum jacket and the solid matter discharge a liquid separation product discharge is arranged. Between this liquid discharge and the solid matter discharge a cross-sectional constriction is provided having a plate extending radially to a point spaced from an interior side of the drum jacket. Means are provided to control a differential speed between the drum jacket and worm conveyor or solid matter quantity supplied per unit of time to the centrifuge according to torque of the worm conveyor, solid matter concentration in the solid matter discharge, or solid matter concentration in the liquid separation product discharge.

The invention relates to a screw-type solid bowl centrifuge (2) for processing a material to be centrifuged that has a tendency to foam. The inventive centrifuge comprises a centrifugal drum (3) with a liquids discharge (34) and a solids discharge (36) and with a rotatable bowl jacket (4) in which a rotatable screw (12) is disposed. The centrifugal drum is provided with a feed section with a central feed pipe (20) that is configured coaxially relative to the axis of rotation of the centrifuge drum. Said feed pipe feeds the material to be centrifuged through a distributor (16) to the centrifuge chamber (18) between the screw (12) and the bowl jacket (4) which is designed as a substantially airtight, closed system. The invention further provides a special kind of a baffle plate system (28, 30) that prevents foam that is produced when the material is centrifuged from escaping through the liquids discharge (34) and/or the solids discharge (36).
