The glass is fixed on the contact surface of the first bending die and on the contact surface of the second bending die by injecting a gaseous fluid onto the glass, as a result of which the glass is lifted and pressed against the contact surface of the bending die, and / or by suction of the glass to the contact surface. The push frame is fixed on the carriage inserted by the feeding module into the bending zone. As a result of the movement of the carriage, the pressure frame is moved between the first position of the pressure frame and the second position of the pressure frame in the lateral direction relative to the first and second bending dies. The feeding module is movable and is brought to the bending zone. A glass sheet is suspended from a series of tongs which grip the upper margin of the sheet and apply individual forces at the gripping locations at least some of which have components acting out of the plane of the sheet. The magnitude and direction of each of said forces is selected to ensure that the suspended sheet, when at forming temperature, adapts towards a predetermined curved shape. The sheet may be bent with the forces acting at the gripping points before and/or after bending, and the sheet adopts the required curved shape when it is sufficiently stiffened to be uninfluenced by the remanent forces applied at the gripping points.

The conveyor is used for transporting sheets on carriages, being driven by a linear motor operating on a support rail. To enable the carriage to be stopped at a predetermined point, an electromagnetic brake is fitted on the support rail. The brake comprises a U shaped ferromagnetic core (1), its base being provided with a wound electromagnet coil (2). Each of the legs of the core have inward facing projecting ribs (1a), these defining the air gap. When glass sheets are bent to "V" shape by press bending and electrical current is used to provide localized heating along the intended line of a sharp bend, it is necessary to insulate the glass electrically from ground. This is done according to the present invention by providing the pressing molds that engage the glass with covers of electrical insulator material, such as fiber glass, and by incorporating in the glass suspending means or tongs a length of electrical insulator material sufficiently long to effectively insulate the metal tongs that engage the glass from the tong suspension carriage which is grounded and to avoid electrical arcing. The detailed tongs construction incorporating a member of an electrical insulator material of sufficient length to insulate the conductive glass sheet portion from a grounded tong supporting carriage and to avoid arcing therebetween is also part of the present invention.

The container ( 15 ) includes a support system for the glass sheets ( 13 ) that comprises a bottom support ( 17 ), two side supports ( 19 a, 19 b), and a top support ( 21 ). The sheets ( 13 ) are slid into the container ( 15 ) without contact between their side edges ( 23 a, 23 b) and the side supports ( 19 a, 19 b). The top support ( 21 ) is then slid onto the tops of the sheets ( 13 ) without contacting the sheets' top edges ( 25 ). In certain embodiments, flushing air which has been HEPA filtered and pre-heated is passed through the container ( 15 ) during the heat treatment. Apparatus for practicing the methods of the invention are also disclosed.

The glass forming device according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: at least one heating unit which heats a mold accommodating glass and includes a chamber of having an internal space formed to accommodate a mold, a first heating unit of being positioned in the lower part of the mold in the chamber and heating the mold, and a second heating unit of being combined with the chamber to be able to move in a vertical direction and heating the mold by being positioned in the upper part of the mold in the chamber; at least one transfer unit which supplies the mold to the heating unit in the outside or discharges the heating-completed mold to the outside in the heating unit; and a cooling unit which includes a plurality of seating members where the mold transferred from the heating unit by the transfer unit is positioned and enables the mold to be cooled by rotating the plurality of seating members. The glass forming device by an embodiment of the present invention provides molded glass having even and excellent quality.
