Further additions to the solution may be water soluble phosphoric acid compounds, water soluble polymeric compounds such as polyvinyl alcohol polymers, polyacrylic and methacrylic polymers, polymethylol melamine, urea, polyvinyl pyrrolidene, polymethylol phenol and methyl cellulose polymers, soluble starch, lower alcohols and wetting agents. The concentration of the maleic acid or maleic anhydride copolymer to be used is 0.1-4.0% and chromium ions in the range of 0.01-20%.

The present invention describes a barrier layer composition which is applied to at least one surface of a plastic body, preferably a polyolefin hollow body, having the following composition: (a) 35 to 75 % by weight of an epoxide-containing or halogen- and epoxide-containing metal oxide sol; (b) 20 to 60 % by weight of a fluorine- or sulfo-containing maleic acid hemi ester copolymer or a fluorine- or sulfo-containing maleic acid hemi amide copolymer having the general structural formula (see fig. I) wherein M = vinyl monomer; X = oxygen, nitrogen; Y = -(CH2)n-SO3H, -(CH2)n-F, -(CF2)n-H; n = 2 to 12; (c) 0.5 to 5 % by weight of a catalyst based on one or more tertiary amines.

The present disclosure relates to polymer coatings covalently attached to the surface of a substrate and the preparation of the polymer coatings, such as poly(N-(5-azidoacetamidylpentyl)acrylamide-co-acrylamide) (PAZAM), in the formation and manipulation of substrates, such as molecular arrays and flow cells. The present disclosure also relates to methods of preparing a substrate surface by using beads coated with a covalently attached polymer, such as PAZAM, and the method of determining a nucleotide sequence of a polynucleotide attached to a substrate surface described herein. 3. Ultra Fast Oleophobic - Hydrophilic Switching Surfaces

The invention provides a coating which exhibits fast oleophobic-hydrophilic switching behaviour with, for example, equilibration of high oil contact angle (hexadecane=80°) and low water contact angle (<10°) values which occur within 10 s of droplet impact. These optically transparent surfaces display excellent anti-fogging and self-cleaning properties. The magnitude of oleophobic-hydrophilic switching can be further enhanced by the incorporation of surface roughness and in one embodiment the coating is applied to a surface in the form of a mesh in order to form an effective filter.

Novel materials with thermally reversible curing mechanisms are provided. These inventive compositions are useful in forming microelectronic structures, such as dual damascene structures. The compositions comprise a crosslinkable polymer dispersed or dissolved in a solvent system with a crosslinking agent. In use, the compositions are applied to a substrate and crosslinked. Additional layers may be applied on top of the cured layer followed by additional processing steps. Upon exposure to a temperature above the crosslinking temperature of the composition, the cured layer will undergo a decrosslinking reaction to render the layer soluble in common photoresist solvents, including solvents used to make the composition itself. Thus, after processing, the remaining material can be dissolved away without damaging the substrate. The inventive materials are especially suited for processes involving low-k dielectric substrates.

The inorganic particles also contain reactive functional groups, originally or after surface modification, that can react with the corresponding reactive functional groups of the organic component to form organic/inorganic composite materials. When the composite material is burned or exposed to fire, the organic component forms a char layer and the inorganic particles radiate absorbed heat. The inorganic particles also strengthen the mechanical properties of the structure through the reaction between inorganic and organic materials.
