The light-emitting element includes, between a pair of electrodes, a light-emitting layer including a guest material and a host material, in which an emission spectrum of the host material overlaps with an absorption spectrum of the guest material, and phosphorescence is emitted by conversion of an excitation energy of the host material into an excitation energy of the guest material. By using the overlap between the emission spectrum of the host material and the absorption spectrum of the guest material, the energy smoothly transfers from the host material to the guest material, so that the energy transfer efficiency of the light-emitting element is high. Accordingly, a light-emitting element with high external quantum efficiency can be achieved.

The electroluminescent element comprises a first light-emitting layer containing one kind or two or more kinds of light-emitting materials, and a second light-emitting layer containing two kinds of light-emitting materials (a host material and a phosphorescent material) in which the phosphorescent material is doped at a concentration of from 10 to 40 wt %, preferably, from 12.5 to 20 wt %. Consequently, blue emission can be obtained from the first light-emitting layer and green and red (or orange) emission can be obtained from the second light-emitting layer. An electroluminescent element having such device configuration can easily control white balance since emission peak intensity changes at the same rate in case of increasing a current density.

A method for manufacturing a light-emitting element, in particular, a method for manufacturing a light-emitting element with high emission efficiency is provided. In the method for manufacturing a light-emitting element that includes a light-emitting layer containing a host material and a light-emitting material that is an organic compound or an organic metal complex, the light-emitting layer is formed by co-evaporation of the light-emitting material and the host material, and the light-emitting layer is deposited by co-evaporation while the percentage of the partial pressure of carbon dioxide with respect to the total pressure in an evaporation chamber for the co-evaporation is kept higher than that in the air. 1. A method for manufacturing a light-emitting element comprising a light-emitting layer , the method comprising the step of:forming the light-emitting layer by co-evaporation of a light-emitting material and a host material, the light-emitting material being an organic compound or an organic metal complex,wherein the light-emitting layer is deposited while a percentage of a partial pressure of carbon dioxide with respect to a total pressure in an evaporation chamber for the co-evaporation is kept higher than a percentage of a partial pressure of carbon dioxide with respect to a total pressure in the air.2. The method for manufacturing the light-emitting element according to claim 1 , wherein the percentage of the partial pressure of carbon dioxide with respect to the total pressure in the evaporation chamber for the co-evaporation is higher than or equal to 0.1%.3.
