The grease is made according to any known method for making an overbased calcium sulfonate grease by using the overbased magnesium sulfonate in addition to the overbased calcium sulfonate. A portion of the magnesium sulfonate may be added prior to conversion and another portion after conversion, with or without one or more delay periods between the addition of water or other reactive ingredient and the addition of magnesium sulfonate. The grease can be made using calcium hydroxyapatite and/or added calcium carbonate as calcium containing bases for reacting with complexing acids, a non-aqueous converting agent delay method, added alkali metal hydroxide, or any combination thereof. The grease has a high dropping point and reduced thickener yield.

The composition of the invention shows excellent anti-fretting properties under the conditions of ordinary temperature to low temperature (e.g., −50° C., preferably about −40° C.).

The invention comprises an additive for lubricating oils (see Group III), said additive being a compound obtained by the sulphurization or sulphurization and phosphorization of the unsaponifiable matter extracted from saponified wool grease, or a metal salt of such a sulphurized and phosphorized compound. The unsaponifiable matter may be sulphurized by heating with sulphur and the reaction may be assisted by adding a small amount of sulphur monochloride or sulphur dichloride. The sulphurized product may then be phosphorized by reacting it with a phosphorus compound, e.g. a phosphorus sulphide or halide and particularly phosphorus pentasulphide or sesquisulphide, e.g. by heating with either of the latter at 220 DEG to 250 DEG F. Alternatively, the unsaponifiable matter may be reacted with sulphur chlorides in oil or an inert solvent and the chlorine then replaced by sulphur, or phosphorus and sulphur, by reacting the product in a suitable solvent with sodium sulphide or polysulphide or the sodium salt of an organic dithiophosphoric acid. The sulphurization of the unsaponifiable material may be carried out in the presence of a vulcanization accelerator, e.g. mercaptobenzothiazole, benzothiazole disulphide, tetramethyl and tetraethyl thiuram disulphides or mixtures of these compounds with diphenyl guanidine. It is preferred to carry out the sulphurization in the presence of an aliphatic, alicyclic, or reduced heterocyclic secondary amine such as dicyclohexylamine, diethanolamine, or morpholine and the sulphurization is facilitated by carrying it out in the presence of mineral oil. In a process for converting mixed polyethylene waste to make waxes and grease base stocks through catalytic depolymerization, the mixed polyethylene waste is preheated to form a molten mixed polyethylene waste. Then, depolymerization reaction of the molten mixed polyethylene waste is started. The depolymerization reaction uses a catalyst in a high pressure reactor at a desired temperature using heaters in the high pressure reactor. The catalyst is disposed on a stirring blade. Progression of depolymerization reaction of the molten mixed polyethylene waste is allowed to continue until a pressure in the high pressure reactor reaches a desired value. The heaters are turned off and depolymerization reaction of the molten mixed polyethylene waste is stopped upon the pressure in the reactor reaching desired value. The mixed polyethylene waste is converted to wax or grease base stock.

A system for continuously treating recycled polymeric material includes a hopper configured to feed the recycled polymeric material into the system. An extruder can turn the recycled polymeric material in a molten material. In some embodiments, the extruder uses thermal fluids, electric heaters, and/or a separate heater. The molten material is depolymerized in a reactor. In some embodiments, a catalyst is used to aid in depolymerizing the material. In certain embodiments, the catalyst is contained in a permeable container. The depolymerized molten material can then be cooled via a heat exchanger. In some embodiments, multiple reactors are used. In certain embodiments, these reactors are connected in series. In some embodiments, the reactor(s) contain removable static mixer(s) and/or removable annular inserts.
