The sliver cans, which are removed from workstations where their sliver contents have been consumed, are passed through a can emptying station before refilled with sliver. As the sliver cans are returned to the filling station, they are checked for any clinging residue, and only those cans which still contain sliver material are emptied before refilling. After emptying, the interior of the can is checked for sliver material. ADVANTAGE - The system ensures that a sliver can is completely empty and free of clinging material before being refilled with sliver, so that the sliver is drawn off cleanly without dragging residue which could affect further sliver processing operations.

Upon application of fluid pressure to effect relative movement of the piston and the cylinder, the locking washer is spring-urged against a wedge-like tipping washer which skews the lockingwasher and causes it to clamp the piston rod whereby the piston rod is then driven by the ram through a predetermined travel, from a starting position which is governed only by the diameter of the package at the time of operation of the package lift mechanism. This allows a virtually constant lift travel of the ram, regardless of the diameter of the package at the time of operation of the ram.

L'élévateur 7 est muni d'un vérin pneumatique 7a et d'un support de plateau 7b qui monte et descend sous l'action du vérin. Sous l'effet d'une course du vérin la surface supérieure du support 7b peut prendre deux positions dont l'une est au niveau de la surface supérieure du convoyeur 6, tandis que l'autre est au niveau de la surface supérieure d'une palette 3 montée sur le chariot A.
