The excavator or crane consists of a superstructure and a gantry, which are turnably connected by a live ring. There is a hydraulic or electrical turning mechanism, to generate a slewing or turning movement. The mechanism consists of a conventional transmission (22), with a housing with engines (12,13), which are fastened to the superstructure (2). The mechanism has three or more gear or drive segments (8,9,10,11), which execute a parallel crank movement due to two eccentric shafts (21). All tooth segments are in constant mesh with a roller chain etc around the outer or inner ring (7a,7) of the live ring. The circumference of the eccentric circle corresponds to the circular pitch. A lifting stool for applying lifting force to the support tub of a dragline excavating machine during walking movement of the machine in which the machine is lifted upward by a lifting mechanism comprising part of the machine. The lifting stool includes a ring having a circular vertical wall member affixed to the support tub and defining a laterally closed space. The circular vertical wall member includes upper and lower separated wall sections defining the vertical space. A lifting plate is positioned within the vertical wall member and a lifting pin is connected between the excavating machine and the lifting plate. The lifting plate extends into the vertical space between the upper and lower wall sections and is affixed to the two wall sections. Thus, during walking movement of the excavation machine the support tub will move upward with the lifting pin and the lifting stool.

The tilt mechanism is very robust and provides independent adjustment of the angle of tilt relative to each of two pivot axes (16, 17). The tilt mechanism (15) incorporates a spherical bearing (37) mounted on a shaft (38) perpen- dicular to the longitudinal pivot axis (16) of the tilt mechanism to eliminate end-play in the joint which forms the longitudinal pivot axis. The longitudinal and transverse pivot axes (16, 17) preferably lie in the same plane so that many of the the forces which are trans- ferred from the superstructure (14) of the vehicle through the tilt mechansim (15) to the chassis (13) of the vehicle cannot cause a torque on the components of the tilt mechanism.

A turning joint for an electric excavator (or a hybrid excavator) uses the principle of a transformer to transmit electric energy from the upper portion of the excavator to a travelling body in the lower portion thereof. Thus, even while an upper rotator body of an electric excavator performs a rotating operation, electric power can be supplied to a travelling electric motor in the lower portion of the electric excavator, to thereby perform a travelling operation.

The swivel bearing has a fixed outer ring(1) and a rotating inner ring(2) which is supported by a row of rollers(6). The inner and outer rings(2, 1) have circumferential grooves(16, 17) of semicircular cross-section to support the row of balls(7). These grooves(16, 17) are so aligned w.r.t. each other, that the line joining the points of contact(18, 19) makes an angle alpha with the bearing axis. When a tipping moment is exerted on the bearing by the load being lifted by the crane, the angle alpha tends to increase so that the capacity of the bearing to resist this tipping load also increases.

The slewing ring on an earthworking machine is fitted with internal teeth (4a) and roller bearings (18). The pinion (8) meshes with the slewing ring supported in the bearing (10), and surrounded by baffle plates which contain the lubricant around the pinion. The ring is filled with a thin grease lubricant (14) which normally fills the space up to the pinion. An inner seal (17) and an outer seal (18) prevent grease from leaking out. When the slewing ring is on a slope, the grease will rise slowly on the lower side to the space (16). Its viscosity will ensure that the pinion is always well lubricated.

The platform is held in the selected setting by a spring loaded, conical plunger (11) which engages different conical holes (12) in the floor of the vehicle. For fail-safe operation the holes are arranged in pairs, with one of the holes of each pair engaged by a second plunger linked to the safety system. This blocks the setting of the second plunger as long as the parking brake of the vehicle is off and as long as the engine is running. The blocking control can be hydraulic, and prevents the vehicle being set into a dangerous setting.

A plurality of intersections are formed by the intersecting of different groups of three of the plurality of chordal plates and a plurality of intersections are formed by the intersecting of different groups of two of the plurality of chordal plates and one of the plurality of radial plates. Pairs of radial plates are aligned and, together with the ring wall, form a continuous diameter member across the peripheral outer wall. All of the triangular compartments are equilateral sided and are of the same size.

An excavator comprises an upper unit rotatably mounted on an undercarriage by selectively driving a swing pinion gear against a reaction ring gear secured to the undercarriage. An enclosure, comprising a pan having a cover secured thereon, forms an annular chamber containing the swing pinion and ring gear therein. A pair of wedge-like members, secured to the cover, are disposed on either side of the swing pinion to continuously press grease into meshing teeth of the respective gears.

A roller circle assembly for heavy machinery includes an upper circular rail and a lower circular rail concentrically arranged about a central axis, and tapered rollers between the upper and lower rail. Each tapered roller includes a flange having an angled and convex flange contact surface that contacts the lower rail. The lower rail and/or the upper rail can include an angled surface configured for contact with the flange contact surface. The geometry of the rollers and the lower rail are configured to reduce the stresses applied to the rollers and lower rail due to contact between the flange contact surface and the angled surface.

Four-way levelling mechanism for off-road vehicle

A four way tilt mechanism (15) for maintaining the super-structure (14) of an off road vehicle generally horizontal while the vehicle is working on uneven terrain is disclosed. The tilt mechanism is very robust and provides independent adjustment of the angle of tilt relative to each of two pivot axes (16, 17). The tilt mechanism (15) incorporates a spherical bearing (37) mounted on a shaft (38) perpen-dicular to the longitudinal pivot axis (16) of the tilt mechanism to eliminate end-play in the joint which forms the longitudinal pivot axis. The longitudinal and transverse pivot axes (16, 17) preferably lie in the same plane so that many of the the forces which are trans-ferred from the superstructure (14) of the vehicle through the tilt mechansim (15) to the chassis (13) of the vehicle cannot cause a torque on the components of the tilt mechanism.

A construction machine includes a vertical separating/connecting device interposed between a lower traveling body and a swing bearing that supports an upper rotating body (10). The device includes an externally toothed ring member (3) fixed to the swing bearing with a first attaching unit, a rotating unit that rotates the externally toothed ring member, an internally toothed ring member (4) fixed to the lower traveling body with a second attaching unit positioned on an attachment pitch circle having the same diameter and center as an attachment pitch circle of the first attaching unit, and a fixing unit that fixes the externally toothed ring member or the internally toothed ring member. Internal teeth of the internally toothed ring member (4) and external teeth of the externally toothed ring member (3) are positioned so as to allow the movement of the external teeth or to engage with each other when the externally toothed ring member is rotated.

In order to be able to use a GNSS and calculate accurate azimuth angles regardless of changes in the posture of a construction machine, such as the raising or lowering of a front work machine, a controller 20 has a position/posture calculation unit 20a that: determines that the quality of an azimuth angle for an upper rotation body 2, calculated by a GNSS receiver 17c, is low when at least either the posture angle of the upper rotation body 2 obtained by a body IMU 13 or the posture angle of a front work machine 1 obtained by a boom IMU 14 is at least a threshold value; executes a bias removal calculation on the basis of the azimuth angle quality and on the basis of the azimuth angle of the upper rotation body 2 calculated by the GNSS receiver 17c; calculates a corrected azimuth angle for the upper rotation body 2, on the basis of the azimuth angle for the upper rotation body 2 calculated by the GNSS receiver 17c and on the basis of the gyro bias-removed angular velocity of the upper rotation body 2; and uses this corrected azimuth angle to calculate the three-dimensional position and posture of the front work machine 1.
