A bump stop assembly 14 for use between a door and a surrounding frame co-operates with an abutment. The bump stop assembly comprises a body 15 having an inclined surface 23 and a slider 16 which is capable of movement along the inclined surface. The slider has a strike face 30 for contact with the abutment and a resilient catch in the form of serrations which co-operate with serrations provided on the body. In use, closing the door brings the abutment into contact the slider causing it to ratchet along the serrations, moving along the inclined surface until it is in the correct position with the abutment in touch with the end face of the slider. The door is then opened and a lock 17 is provided for securing the bump stop in the correct position. The assembly is particularly useful for a vehicle tail gate.

A damping device has a pin member inserted slidably in a cylindrical case member. The bottom of the case member has: a hole forming section in which an insertion hole is formed; and a slit for allowing the hole forming section to be expanded and deformed. The outer peripheral surface of the pin member and/or the inner peripheral surface of the hole forming section has a tapered section tilted relative to the axial direction. The device has a stopper support with a body (18) having a breakable part (18c) around a support surface of a stopper (17). The stopper is compressed until a hood (2) is directly supported on a support washer (18d) of the body during an impact with a pedestrian. The part is broken and the support is compressed during violent impact so that the stopper is supported on a compression spring (20) that is compressed for absorbing impact.

One-piece elastic stop (10) intended to be interposed between two movable elements, for example a door handle and its fixed housing. According to the invention, the stop (10) comprises a pneumatic volume (18) communicating with the atmosphere via an orifice (15). It is fastened in the usual way to the fixed element (2) and the orifice (15) is closed off by the movable element (1), thus allowing pneumatic damping. The invention relates to a vehicle rear luggage compartment load cover end stop support. The plastic support 2 is mounted behind a lateral rear light 3 of the vehicle, between this light and the vehicle bodywork. The light 3 comprises a skirt 10 forming a housing of stepped shape for part of the lateral edge of the load cover (not visible). This skirt 10 comprises an opening through which there passes an end stop 8 mounted on the support 2. This provides an inexpensive way of attaching the end stop 8 and also makes it possible to get away from the tight dimensional tolerances on the design of the vehicle.
