The present invention relates to an aqueous binder composition and a method for binding fibrous materials using the same and, more particularly, to an aqueous binder composition and a method for binding fibrous material using the same, the composition comprising at least one reducing sugar, at least one amino acid and an ionic compound including bi- or more-valent metal cation; and compared to a conventional formaldehyde resin (PFR), exhibiting inexpensive and at least equivalent physical properties and not containing toxic materials such as formaldehyde or phenol and thereby not emitting the toxic materials, and thus it is possible to reduce the odor problem, which is the vulnerability of the existing PFR resin, during manufacture, and significantly improve mechanical properties such as water-resistance, tensile strength, hardness etc. as well as dust rate of the processed product.
