A spot color pattern system provides a naming convention that allows the user to name a custom spot color pattern. A Raster Image Processing (RIP) has a database of spot color patterns that are user definable and are patterns which are images of a textile, fabric, metal, etc., that are repeatedly printed across the job. The RIP interprets a spot color pattern name in print job, looks up the spot color in its database, pulls up the image associated with the spot color pattern name, adds Postscript(R) pattern code to the print job to paint the spot color across the background of the print job, realistically simulating the final print media, and adds other code to perform other tasks, such as mirroring or four-way mirroring to prevent stitches from appearing. A RIP user interface gives the user the ability to create, modify, or delete spot color patterns. The invention also provides a mechanism that allows an application program to access a custom spot color pattern from the RIP.

Method and system for color matching between digital display devices

Номер: US0006072902A1
Автор: Myers Robin
Принадлежит: APPLE COMPUTER, INC.

A method and system for matching color displayed by source and destination display devices and particularly for providing color matching between a computer monitor and an ink printer. The technique of the present invention initially determines the combination and color value ratios of single destination color components that will cause the destination device to display a color that essentially matches each of fully saturated single and dual colors of a source display device. These combinations of single destination color components and their corresponding color value ratios determine the best available blends of destination device color components for printing source device colors. A color matching algorithm is employed to derive the color value ratios--one for each of the single destination color components. Each color component ratio is then scaled and linearly interpolated over a range defined by the color matching algorithm to generate a set of look-up tables (LUTs)--one for each single ...

There is known a technique of inputting the contents of image data and the use purpose of a print material and automatically selecting a combination of color materials appropriate for them. However, it cannot be confirmed before printing whether improvement of image quality commensurate with the cost and labor to input contents information can be obtained. To solve this problem, the ratio of the amount of the color material of a spot color used to that of the color materials of process colors used in input image data is calculated. The recommendation grade of printing using the spot color is determined on the basis of the ratio. Further, display of the recommendation grade is controlled.

The information expressed by an original color image can be visually recognized even if the recording medium on which the color image has been recorded in dye ink is wetted with water. With a printing device equipped with pigment ink and dye ink, in the printing of a color image, the pigment ink corresponding to an image characteristic amount included in the color image is also injected along with the dye ink, so an image expressing the image characteristic amount included in the color image is recorded with the pigment ink, which has excellent water resistance, over the color image printed with the dye ink on the printing medium. Accordingly, in the event that the recording medium becomes wet and the dye ink bleed, the user can still make out the content of the information expressed by the original color image from the image printed in the pigment ink.

Spot colors are reproduced with a combination of the primary printing inks cyan, magenta, yellow, black and at least one secondary printing ink red, green, blue. A first test form is printed with the primary printing inks and measured calorimetrically. Further test forms, in which one of the colored primary printing inks is replaced by a substantially complementary secondary printing ink, are printed and measured calorimetrically. An ICC color profile is calculated from the measured data of each test form. For each spot color to be reproduced, the proportions of printing inks of the ICC color profile achieving the lowest deviation between the spot color and the reproduced color are determined. The printing ink combination belonging to that ICC profile is selected for the reproduction of the spot color. It is possible to reproduce as many spot colors as desired with four primary printing inks and a maximum of three secondary printing inks.

Принадлежит: HRL LABORATORIES LLC

Described is a system for determining crop residue fraction. The system includes a color video camera mounted on a mobile platform for generating a two-dimensional (2D) color video image of a scene in front or behind the mobile platform. In operation, the system separates the 2D color video image into three separate one-dimensional (1D) mixture signals for red, green, and blue channels. The three 1D mixture signals are then separated into pure 1D component signals using blind source separation. The 1D component signals are thresholded and converted to 2D binary, pixel-level abundance maps, which can then be integrated to allow the system to determine a total component fractional abundance of crop in the scene. Finally, the system can control a mobile platform, such as a harvesting machine, based on the total component fractional abundance of crop in the scene.
