In addition, deterioration of a light-emitting element due to contaminants such as water can be prevented by sealing a layer including an organic material that has water permeability in a display device with a sealing material. A cross sectional shape of the laminated structure in the laminated direction is a forward tapered shape. A sidewall face of the adhesive layer, the reflective layer, and the barrier layer is totally covered by an insulating film, and deposition failure or holes of the insulating film is prevented. A taper angle made by the sidewall face and the flat surface is preferably from about 10° to about 70° . The laminated structure can be used as a reflective electrode, a reflective film, or a wiring for a liquid crystal display.

The major part of each OLED layer has a uniform thickness so that the OLED produces a uniform brightness. The planarization layer covers the thin-film transistor entirely and the planarization layer on top of the thin-film transistor is also covered by an insulation layer. In order to electrically connect the top electrode of the OLED to the drain terminal of the thin-film transistor, an opening is made through both the top insulating layer and the planarization layer to expose part of the drain terminal. Spacers with uniform height are fabricated on the top insulating layer to protect the pixel structure.

A first layer is formed using a material including a resin or a resin precursor over a substrate. Then, first heat treatment is performed on the first layer, whereby a first resin layer including a residue of an oxydiphthalic acid is formed. Then, a layer to be separated is formed over the first resin layer. Then, the layer to be separated and the substrate are separated from each other. The first heat treatment is performed in an atmosphere containing oxygen.

The display panel includes a flexible substrate, a surface of which is provided with a plurality of protrusions; a plurality of organic light-emitting elements disposed on the flexible substrate, at least a portion of the plurality of organic light-emitting elements being located within regions where the protrusions are located. Therefore, parts with the organic light-emitting elements can be stepped by utilizing the protrusions of the flexible substrate, so a thickness of the flexible substrate except the protrusions can be effectively reduced, and the display panel can be in contact with other structures by utilizing the protrusions, so that the portion of the flexible substrate except the protrusions has a deformation space of higher freedom, and a tensile strength of the display panel can be improved.
