Since the bioreactors are floating in water under ground level in a thermally insulated basin, they are less exposed to cold, making it possible to easily establish entirely homogeneous and precise temperatures that are needed for the mesophilic and thermophilic processes.

This invention relates to an apparatus for the removal of heat from sewage. Sweage is fed to the top of a tank through an inlet. A connecting line between an inlet and an outlet, fitted with a shut-off valve, comprises, in the vicinity of the said inlet, two hollow bodies in the form of inverted truncated cones arranged in immediate proximity to each other. The area between the said hollow bodies is in the form of a coarse screen. A circular fine screen, extending downwardly, surrounds the said hollow bodies.
