A relatively sharp shoulder disposed at the interior end of the passage and formed by a short cylindrical neck section coaxial with the passage has a diameter only marginally greater than the diameter of the coated fiber. Once the coating in the passage is softened by the stripper fluid, the fiber is withdrawn allowing the shoulder to cleanly strip away the coating. Advantageously, the stripper is made from graphite, so that any incidental contact with the fiber during the draw-stripping operation has no deleterious effect on the fiber surface.

The control unit controls the operation timing of the adsorption moving unit so that the second substrate is gradually peeled from the first substrate from one end of the second substrate to the other end based on the peeling state detected by the state detection unit.

1510208 Applying bands of plastics to sheet SAINT - GOBAIN INDUSTRIES 10 Dec 1975 [11 Dec 1974] 50619/75 Heading B2L In the manufacture double glazing by extruding a band of plastics spacing and insulating material onto a sheet of glass along the margin thereof, the extrusion is temporarily ceased at each corner and the extrusion nozzle raised from the surface of the sheet without breaking the band, the sheet pivoted through 90‹, the nozzle lowered again and extrusion re-started. A band of plastics material is applied from nozzle 6 of extrusion assembly 1 to a margin of glass sheet (v) [Fig. 2 (not shown)] whilst the sheet is transported on a horizontal conveyor 17 against an edge guide 41. A photoelectric cell 42, mounted adjacent the nozzle, detects the rear edge of the sheet and terminates the conveyor drive and actuates a mechanism for lifting the sheet out of contact with the conveyor and a device for pivoting the sheet. The lifting mechanism comprises a network of spherical rollers 20 mounted on a framework movably supported on stems 34, 35, elevatable via pulleys 33 by cams 31, 32 driven via transverse rods 28-30 by a common jack V. The pivoting device is mounted on the framework 38 and comprises a pair of suction nozzles 22 mounted on an arm pivotally supported at 23. The central rod 29 has a further cam 39 at the end thereof which raises the extrusion assembly 1 by means of abutments 11, 13, the assembly pivoting at 9 on frame 10 against spring 12. Following raising of the sheet and extrusion nozzle, the sheet, being attached to the suction nozzles, is pivoted on arm 21 whilst resting on the spherical rollers. Extrusion is re - commenced upon lowering of the sheet and nozzle.
