The present invention relates to a method for preparing a metal oxide catalyst and a method for preparing acrylonitriles by using the same. More specifically, the present invention prepares a metal oxide catalyst used for ammoxidation of propane and provides a method for preparing acrylonitriles by using the same. The metal oxide catalyst impregnated in a diluent according to the present invention has excellent thermal stability due to containing the diluent introduced therein and achieves high performance even in a small amount, and thus is superior from an economic perspective. In addition, due to active sites being more effectively distributed through the diluent, the metal oxide catalyst can dramatically reduce side reactions and achieve higher productivity of the catalyst, compared to when no diluent is used.
