A method of detecting the occurrence of a condition using a detection system located within a predetermined area comprising:transmitting light from at least one node of a plurality of nodes into an ambient atmosphere adjacent the at least one node;receiving scattered light from the ambient atmosphere at the at least one node;communicating the received scattered light to a control system operably coupled to the at least one node;analyzing the scattered light at the control system to determine a condition of the ambient atmosphere adjacent each at least one node; andadjusting a sensitivity of the at least one node of the plurality of nodes.2. The method of claim 1 , wherein adjusting a sensitivity of the at least one node further comprises determining a risk associated with a location of the at least one node.3. Described herein are articles and methods of making articles, including a transparent composite film having a fiber filler embedded in a polymer network. The polymer network of the transparent composite film is a cured, cross-linked matrix including a first and second structure segment. The structure segments may contribute or impart improved properties in the transparent composite film. The select structure segments can provide increased modulus and reduced glass transition temperature thereby allowing for a desirable balance of flexibility and rigidity in the transparent composite film. The improved transparent composite film is suitable for many applications including use in display devices. 2. A transparent composite film of claim 1 , the cross-linked polymer network being obtained from a thermal or radiation cure of a composition comprising:a first oligomer comprising a refractive index lower than that of the fiber filler;a second oligomer comprising a refractive index higher than that of the first oligomer; anda monomer comprising a refractive index higher than that of the fiber filler,wherein the refractive index difference between the transparent cross-linked polymer network and the fiber filler is ≤about 0.01.3. The transparent composite film of claim 1 , wherein the fiber filler comprises glass fibers or quartz fibers.4. The transparent composite film of claim 3 , wherein the fiber filler comprises a woven fabric.5. The method includes adding a light-sensitive small-molecule compound in a rubbing alignment material, carrying out rubbing alignment after formation of an alignment film, and afterwards, conducting boxing of the FFS liquid crystal display panel, and then applying an electrical voltage to cause liquid crystal molecules to rotate to a position substantially parallel to a substrate, and carrying out UV irradiation to cause polymerization of the light-sensitive small-molecule compound to form polymer bumps so as to keep the liquid crystal molecules in parallel to the substrate. The liquid crystal molecules, after the alignment, show a pre-tilt angle having a zero angle value and can, under the condition of providing a strong anchoring force of the alignment film, reduce the pre-tilt angle of the liquid crystal molecules and improve quality of displaying of the FFS liquid crystal display panel.

This invention is characteristic of combining an electroplating process with a polishing process to uniformly fabricate multi-layer flip chip copper pillar. All kinds of flip chip copper pillar with varied shapes and sizes are able to be defined by using multi-layer photolithography process commonly utilized in the semiconductor processes. After that, use both exposure and alignment procedures to accurately define multi-layer photoresist's patterns on the substrate. Some designated metallic materials are then electroplated on those completed well-defined patterns during the last photolithography process by means of an electroplating process. A polishing process follows the electroplating to level the rugged solder bumps, resulted from the impact on the certain changeable and inevitable electroplating parameters. The first layer of evenly polished flip chip copper pillar could be used as a base metal to continuously deposit another separate flip chip copper pillar that may have different materials as well as heights from the first one. Similarly, the second upper layer of flip chip copper pillar is capable of being uniformly polished employing the same polishing mechanism as the first one. High coplanarity of multi-layer electroplating-based flip chip copper pillar suitable to be used in the high-end and advanced three-dimensional electronic packaging will be achieved after finishing the final reflow process.

The present invention provides an alignment method of an FFS liquid crystal display panel. A method of making a strengthened article that includes: providing an article comprising a glass, glass-ceramic or ceramic composition with a plurality of ion-exchangeable alkali metal ions, a first primary surface and a second primary surface; forming a SiO 2 -containing film over the first primary surface, wherein the SiO 2 -containing film comprises a thickness from about 5 nanometers to about 20 nanometers; forming an anti-glare surface integral with the second primary surface; providing a first ion-exchange bath comprising a plurality of ion-exchanging alkali metal ions, each having a larger size than the size of the ion-exchangeable alkali metal ions; and submersing the article in the first ion-exchange bath at a first ion-exchange temperature and duration to form a strengthened article. Further, the strengthened article comprises a compressive stress region extending from the first primary surface and the second primary surface to first and second selected depths, respectively.

The substrate or article exhibits a transmission haze of 10% or less, a PPDr of about 7% or less or 6% or less, and a DOI of about 80 or less. Method for forming the anti-glare substrates are also disclosed and include etching a surface of a substrate with an etchant having low water solubility to provide an etched surface, and removing a portion of the etched surface. The method includes generating a plurality of insoluble crystals (e.g., any one or more of K?2#191SiF?6#191 and K?3#191AlF?6#191) on the surface while etching the surface. The etchant may include a potassium salt, an organic solvent and a fluoride containing acid.
