Described herein are various systems and methods for using acidic media to enhance the surface characteristics of glass articles while reducing the adverse effects of precipitate/sludge formation. The systems and methods generally implement a precipitation-capturing device that is configured to 1) permit formation of sludge thereon and 2) reduce formation of the sludge on other solid surfaces involved in the systems and methods.

The disclosure is directed to a method for controlling the sludge that is generated during the wet acid etching of glass articles. The four Factors that need to be controlled are (i) the dissolved glass level A; (ii) the HF concentration B; (iii) the second acid concentration C, the second acid being a strong acid, and (iv) the solubility constant D of the precipitate, Ksp, which is controlled by changing temperature or ionic strength. Described herein are aqueous acidic glass etching solutions or media comprising HF and HSO, wherein HF is present in concentrations not exceeding about 1.3M. The etching solutions are used to treat glass articles such as thin glass sheets at above-ambient temperatures to etch slight thicknesses of surface glass therefrom, the etching solutions exhibiting improved stability against dissolved glass precipitation and rapid glass removal rates at slightly elevated temperatures. 1. A method for treating a glass article , the method comprising contacting the glass article with an aqueous acidic etching solution comprising HF and HSO , wherein HF is present in a concentration not exceeding about 1.3M , and wherein the contacting is conducted at a temperature in excess of about 25° C.2. Embodiments of anti-glare substrates and articles including the same are disclosed. In one or more embodiments, the anti-glares substrate includes a textured surface with a plurality of features having an average cross-sectional dimension of about 30 micrometers or less. The substrate or article exhibits a transmission haze of 10% or less, a PPDr of about 7% or less or 6% or less, and a DOI of about 80 or less. The methods include providing a glass-ceramic article having a non-damaged surface, applying a chemical etching solution to the non-damaged surface, and removing the chemical etching solution. The chemical etching solution modifies the non-damaged surface so that from about 0.01 μm to about 2 μm of a depth of the glass-ceramic article is removed. The chemical etching solution modifies the non-damage surface of the glass-ceramic article to form a roughened surface having a reduced gloss value and a target roughness value. 1. Embodiments described herein generally relate to the modification of State of Charge (SoC) calculations within electric vehicles (EVs). A database of data points may be generated based on characteristics of a battery cell at various measured SoCs within a controlled environment. Subsequently, during the operation of an EV, a battery management system (BMS) within the EV may collect various operating data points. The collected operating data points may be utilized to reference similar data points stored in the database in order to determine an SoC value. The SoC value may be utilized to modify or alter the SoC calculations by the BMS for an EV in operation.

Described herein are aqueous acidic glass etching solutions or media comprising HF and H 2 SO 4 , wherein HF is present in concentrations not exceeding about 1.3M. The etching solutions are used to treat glass articles such as thin glass sheets at above-ambient temperatures to etch slight thicknesses of surface glass therefrom, the etching solutions exhibiting improved stability against dissolved glass precipitation and rapid glass removal rates at slightly elevated temperatures.
