A system and associated method of processing solid waste via a waste gasification process results in usable by-products. The method utilizes a rotary kiln heated to a temperature of at least 800° F. and a reduction chamber, heated to a temperature of at least 1800° F. The solid waste is slowly rotated in the kiln for six to eight hours. The solid material is passed through screens to separate the ash from other items. Gases are monitored and transported to the reduction chamber to generate power. Steam generated in the boiler powers a turbine which operates a generator for generating electricity. Dampers may be positioned to bypass the power generation system. Gases are monitored and transported from the reduction chamber to at least one air pollution control unit to remove contaminants before being vented into the atmosphere.

Techniques for automated determination or correction of count bias are based on nucleic acid base content on a finer grained scale than a bin of interest in a target sequence. The techniques include obtaining a target sequence with bins where relative abundances indicate a condition and raw counts Hj of reads, from a subject, which start at each locus j. A partition indicates a fine-grained window at a position relative to a current locus and multiple strata indicating different base contents. Each locus is attributed to one stratum k(j). An expected count of each stratum, E(k), is determined based on Hj for j belonging to the stratum and a number of loci in the target belonging to the stratum. A copy number of a bin is based on a sum of E(k(j)) in the bin. Output data indicates condition of the subject based at least partly on the copy number.

Disclosed are methods and tools for rapidly aligning reads to a reference sequence. These methods and tools employ Bloom filters or similar set membership testers to perform the alignment. The reads may be short sequences of nucleic acids or other biological molecules and the reference sequences may be sequences of genomes, chromosomes, etc. The Bloom filters include a collection of hash functions, a bit array, and associated logic for applying reads to the filter. Each filter, and there may be multiple of these used in a particular application, is used to determine whether an applied read is present in a reference sequence. A method for detecting ploidy in an embryo is provided, comprising receiving an embryo sequence data; aligning the received sequence data to a reference genome; identifying a region of interest in the aligned embryo sequence data; identifying single nucleotide polymorphisms (SMPs) in the sequence data by comparing the received sequence data to the aligned reference genome; determining a ploidy score comprising counting the number of observed SNPs in the region of interest; comparing the ploidy score to a predetermined threshold; and identifying the embryo as polyploid if the ploidy score is below the predetermined threshold. 1. A method for detecting ploidy in an embryo , comprising:receiving an embryo sequence data;aligning the received sequence data to a reference genome;identifying a region of interest in the aligned embryo sequence data;identifying single nucleotide polymorphisms (SMPs) in the sequence data by comparing the received sequence data to the aligned reference genome;determining a ploidy score comprising counting the number of observed SNPs in the region of interest;comparing the ploidy score to a predetermined threshold; andidentifying the embryo as polyploid if the ploidy score is below the predetermined threshold.2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising identifying the embryo as euploid if the ploidy score is above the predetermined threshold.3. Transgenic cells may be selected using temperature sensitive marker proteins. In this method, a population of host cells are transformed with a foreign DNA construct which includes at least one first nucleic acid coding sequence and a second nucleic acid sequence encoding a temperature sensitive marker protein, wherein each of the first and second nucleic acid coding sequences are operatively linked to gene expression control sequences. Suitable temperature sensitive marker proteins which may be used herein include heat shock proteins, heat shock transcription factors, cold regulated proteins (COR), or cold regulated protein transcription factors. Following transformation, the population of cells are cultured under temperature conditions wherein growth of non-transformed cells is suppressed or prevented while growth of cells transformed with the DNA construct is supported or promoted. Thus, survival and/or significant growth of a cell is an indication that the cell has been successfully transformed with the DNA construct. Those cells are considered presumptively positive transformants, and may be recovered.

The load cell comprises an integral block of material divided by milled apertures and recesses into two vertical members and three horizontal members connecting the vertical members. The platform is supported on one of the vertical members. The base is connected to the other vertical member. The upper and lower horizontal members carry most of the bending moments due to eccentric loads from one vertical member to the other. The middle horizontal member is constructed so that it carries most of the vertical component of the load. The strain gage elements are on this middle horizontal member and thus measure only the vertical load.

Methods of reliably estimating genomic fraction (e.g., fetal fraction) from polymorphisms such as small base variations or insertions-deletions are disclosed. Sequenced data from a multigenomic source is used to determine allele counts for one or more of the polymorphisms. For one or more of the polymorphisms, zygosity is assigned, and genomic fraction is determined from the zygosity and allele counts. Certain embodiments employ SNPs as the relevant polymorphism. The present invention relates to a novel method for forming metal matrix composite bodies and the novel products produced therefrom. A negative shape or cavity, which is complimentary to the desired metal matrix composite body to be produced, is first formed. The formed cavity is thereafter filled with a permeable mass of filler material. Molten matrix metal is then induced to spontaneously infiltrate the filled cavity. Particularly, an infiltration enhancer and/or an infiltration enhancer precursor and/or an infiltrating atmosphere are also in communication with the filler material, at least at some point during the process, which permits the matrix metal, when made molten, to spontaneously infiltrate the permeable mass of filler material, which at some point during the processing, may become self-supporting. In a preferred embodiment, cavities can be produced by a process which is similar to the so-called lost-wax process.

The lights, which are mounted on the floor of the vehicle, are not visible to the driver and are obscured to a viewer outside the vehicle by a sliding cover moved into position when the handbrake is applied. A cable is attached to the handbrake and the cover for moving the cover to obscure the light when the handbrake is on whilst a spring attached to an anchor point of the vehicle and the cover holds the cover in the open position when the handbrake is off. The vehicle owner, on leaving the car, closes the switch which is key operated so that a thief on releasing the handbrake and switching on the ignition causes one of the amber lights to be switched on. The three amber lights are connected through contacts on the speedometer and other lights which give a visible indication of the speed at which the vehicle is travelling, the amber lights being so connected that one is always switched on during the unauthorized use irrespective of the speed of the vehicle. The three pole switch may be provided with a rubber suction disc so that it can be placed in any position.

CELL-SEEDING INTO FIBROUS LATTICES BY MEANS OF CENTRIFUGATION ABSTRACT This invention comprises the use of centrifugal force to introduce viable cells into a fibrous lattice, as well as fibrous lattices that are seeded with cells by the use of centrifugal force. A variety of fibrous lattices may be seeded by the methods of this invention, such as a highly porous lattice comprising collagen fibers crosslinked with glycosaminoglycan. Before the centrifugation, a piece of intact tissue is harvested from a donor site. It is treated with one or more substances, such as trypsin or collagenase, to dissociate cells from the tissue. The cells are then mixed with an aqueous solution to create an aqueous suspension of cells. A piece of fibrous lattice is placed within a container, referred to herein as a "bucket," that is suitable for rotation by a centrifuge. The aqueous suspension of cells is placed within the bucket, in contact with the lattice. The centrifuge is then rotated. Centrifugal force causes the cells, which are denser than the aqueous solution, to be forced into the lattice in a relatively uniform distribution. By controlling various parameters, cells can be seeded into any desired location within a lattice.

The stabilized highly porous foam is then subjected to a liquid solution of a chemical crosslinking agent so as to produce a dimensionally-stable, non-collapsible highly porous foam material.
