Disclosed are a system and method for microprojection that uses multiple imagers to produce a high resolution output image. Light created for use by the microprojector is split by a polarization-sensitive element into a number of beams. Each polarized beam is then sent to an imager. Each imager modulates the light beam to produce a portion of the final image. Another polarization-sensitive element directs the individual image portions through a projection lens system so that when they are projected, the individual image portions tile together into a seamless projected image. This technique uses essentially all of the original light, doubling the lighting efficiency of previous devices. Because the height of the individual imagers is smaller than the height of a monolithic imager, they can fit into a very thin device. The combined image has a resolution equal to the sum of the resolutions of the individual imagers.

Organic polymer O-plate compensator for improved gray scale performance in twisted nematic liquid crystal displays

An O-plate compensator comprising an organic liquid crystal polymer, and methods for fabricating the same, are disclosed. The compensator is a uniaxial birefringent thin film with its extraordinary axis oriented obliquely with respect to the surface of the film. (It is noted that the birefringent thin film could be weakly biaxial.) The oblique orientation of the liquid crystal director, which is parallel to the films extraordinary axis, is achieved by casting an organic thin film onto a surface specially prepared for a orienting liquid crystals, such as obliquely deposited SiO, mechanically rubbed alignment agents. The film can either be cast from a solution of the liquid crystal polymer or from a reactive liquid crystal monomer having a nematic phase. Any solvent that may be used during the fabrication process is evaporated off and the organic thin film is held at a temperature in its nematic phase. If a reactive monomer is used, the film is then photopolymerized. Alternative embodiments of an organic O-plate include the use of smectic-A and smectic-C materials. Fabrication techniques employing these materials are described.

The present invention provides a system for reducing the size of a projection display system. This is achieved by using an emissive imager that comprises a large number of emissive pixels. The emissive pixels provide both light output and light modulation functions. This eliminates the need for a separate illumination source. Each emissive pixel represents a pixel (or a sub- pixel for color projection) of an image to be projected. The light signals produced and modulated by the emissive imager are passed through a microlens array. The microlens array collects and reshapes the emitted light signals from the emissive pixels. Each microlens forms a light beam with a concentrated non-Lambertian radiation profile. The non-Lambertian radiation profile helps in effective collection of light at a projection lens. Finally, the projection lens collects this light and projects a magnified image on a projection screen.

Upon a rotation of the optical reflecting device by a rotation angle to a second rotation position, the light beam exits the optical reflecting device at a second exit angle of the light beam from the normal axis of the optical reflector at the first rotation position. Displays such as liquid crystal displays (10), organic light emitting diode displays, and touch sensitive displays (41) are stacked with one or more solar cells (15) such that light passing through the displays will illuminate the light receiving active surface of the solar cells (15). No reflector or polarizer need be used when the liquid crystal display (10) uses cholesteric or polymer dispersed liquid crystals. When using supertwist nematic or twisted nematic liquid crystals, a reflector (21) can be used that comprises a selective color reflector. The resultant display/solar cell can be utilized in combination with a device such as a wireless communications device (62) with the solar cell (15) providing electricity to the display (61), the wireless communications device (62), or both. A mask (71) can be used to occlude surface features on the solar cell (15) as appropriate to provide a substantially uniformly colored appearance.

Embodiments of this application relate to the technical field of electronic circuits, and in particular, to a communication circuit, an electronic system, a battery pack, and an electrical device. The communication circuit includes: a transmitting module, configured to transmit a signal through a communication connection wire when the communication circuit is in a transmitting state, where the communication connection wire is connected to a common positive pole shared by two communication circuits; and a receiving module, configured to receive the signal through the communication connection wire when the communication circuit is in a receiving state. When the communication circuit is in the transmitting state, the transmitting module is activated and the receiving module is deactivated. When the communication circuit is in the receiving state, the transmitting module is deactivated and the receiving module is activated. Communication connection is implemented between different subsystems by connecting to the common positive pole. Even if a ground wire between systems is disconnected, the communication function is prevented from being affected, thereby improving reliability effectively.
