In video encoding, the video frames are spatio-temporally filtered for reduction of spatial and temporal redundancy before they are entropy encoded. Known filtering schemes consider temporally successive frames and are static. It is probable but not necessary that successive frames are most efficient to encode. Therefore, a plurality or all possible frame order permutations are considered for a group of frames (GOP) and evaluated based on a global criterion, which is the sum of local criterion values computed over successive subsets of permuted frames. The local criterion value is deduced from motion estimation processed on each considered set of frames. The best ordering is chosen as the one that minimizes the global criterion value.

A method, apparatus and system for estimating reflectance parameters and a position of the light source(s) of specular reflections of a scene include RGB sequence analysis with measured geometry in order to estimate specular reflectance parameters of an observed 3D scene. Embodiments include pixel-based image registration from which profiles of 3D scene points image intensities over the sequence are estimated. A profile is attached to a 3D point and to the set of pixels that display its intensity in the registered sequence. This invention provides a polymerization process for producing polymers with narrow molecular weight distributions. It comprises addition of monomer and initiator to a reaction vessel using a monomer feed profile and an initiator feed profile wherein the feed profiles are such that the ratio of monomer concentration to initiator concentration is determined in accordance with a polymerization kinetics relationship between a selected degree of polymerization and monomer concentration, initiator concentration, reaction temperature and a polymerization efficiency factor to obtain an approximately constant degree of polymerization for polymer produced during the polymerization process. An apparatus and method are provided for generation of virtual and mixed reality content. In one embodiment, the method includes receiving video content having at least one scene with real objects and determining if virtual objects are to be added to the scene. A rough model is then generated of the scene with any to be added virtual objects and a segmentation is performed of the real objects in the scene. The occlusion contours and color models for the real objects in the scene is then performed based on the segmentation. Any virtual objects that will at least be partially occluded based on the rough model is determined and labeled so that the occlusion contours and the color models can be updated.
