A catalyst comprising (i) a support, (ii) metal particles and (iii) a shell which is arranged between the metal particles, wherein the shell (iii) comprises silicon oxide. 1. A catalyst , comprising:a support;metal particles; anda shell,wherein the shell is arranged between the metal particles and the shell comprises silicon oxide.2. The catalyst according to claim 1 ,wherein the shell comprises from 0.1 to 10% by weight, based on a total weight of the shell, of Zr, Ce, Ti, Al, Nb, La, In, Zn, Sn, Mg, Ca, Li, Na, K, or any mixtures thereof.3. The catalyst according to claim 1 , wherein the shell has a layer thickness of from 0.5 nm to 2000 nm.4. The catalyst according to claim 1 , wherein the shell has pores having a diameter of from 0.5 nm to 40 nm.5. The catalyst according to claim 1 , wherein the shell envelopes the metal particles.6. The catalyst according to claim 1 , comprising from 0.1 to 35% by weight of SiO claim 1 , based on a total weight of the support claim 1 , the metal particles claim 1 , and the shell.7. The catalyst according to claim 1 , wherein the metal particles are arranged on the support and are in contact with the support claim 1 , and the shell envelopes the support with the metal particles.8. The catalyst according to claim 1 , wherein the metal particles comprise gold claim 1 , silver claim 1 , platinum claim 1 , rhodium claim 1 , palladium claim 1 , copper claim 1 , nickel claim 1 , iron claim 1 , ruthenium claim 1 , osmium claim 1 , chromium claim 1 , vanadium claim 1 , manganese claim 1 , molybdenum claim 1 , cobalt claim 1 , zinc and mixtures and/or alloys thereof.9. The catalyst according to claim 1 , wherein the metal particles have a diameter in the range of from 0.1 nm to 200 nm.10. The catalyst according to claim 1 , wherein the catalyst comprises from 0.1 to 20% by weight of the metal particles claim 1 , based on the total weight of the support claim 1 , the metal particles claim 1 , and the shell.11.
