Each gap is spanned by elasticated gore members comprising sheet material 82, and said sheet is over- or under-laid by elastic straps 110, 112 and 114. These resilient means allow the shoe to adapt to the swelling of a foot during exercise, and keep the fit of the shoe snug when the foot contracts. This spares adjustment of the laces during or after exercise.

A woven upper 1 formed of warp yarns and weft yarns comprising a first area 2, the warp yarns and/or the weft yarns in the first area comprising at least 5% elastic yarns, the elastic yarns being in tension. The upper may also comprise a second area 3 having a greater elasticity in the warp and/or weft direction than the first area, wherein the warp yarns and/or weft yarns of the second area comprise at least 5% fewer elastic yarns than the equivalent yarns of the first area. An athletic shoe is described having an external heel counter member made of a resilient material, such as rubber or other elastomer for greater stability and comfort. The external heel counter is bonded to the outer surface of both sides of the heel portion of the shoe upper and extends around the heel. A multi-layered shoe sole is provided including a heel wedge layer or other raised heel portion for raising the heel of the foot above the bottom surface of the toes. The shoe sole also employs a midsole layer which extends the entire length of the shoe. In one embodiment the bottom edge of the external heel counter member surrounds the rear portion of the midsole layer and is bonded to the top of the heel wedge layer. In another embodiment the bottom edge of the heel counter member is turned under the heel and is bonded between the shoe upper and the midsole layer.

At least one profile element, which comprises a rubber material, is connected to the outer face of the base layer. The profile element is connected to the outer face of the base layer without using a seam by means of hot pressing. 1. A method for manufacturing an upper for a shoe comprising the steps of:(a) providing a base layer for an upper; and(b) connecting at least one profile element comprising a rubber material to an outer face of the base layer without using a seam by means of hot pressing.2. Embodiments of the present invention relate to a thermoplastic polyurethane (“TPU”) infused mesh material that is molded to form at least a portion of a shoe. The TPU infused mesh may be formed as an upper, a portion of sole or other components of a shoe. The TPU infused mesh is formed, in an exemplary embodiment, through the application of liquid TPU to a surface of a spacer mesh. The liquid TPU infused spacer mesh is then cured, cut to a pattern, and heat molded to form a desired portion of the shoe. The heat molded TPU mesh is coupled to other portions of the shoe (e.g., sole) to form an article footwear in an exemplary embodiment.

The fabrication methods and articles are characterized by the selective use of a bonding agent, in the form of a powder or tackified (e.g., preheated) powder, to bond various material panels, such substrate, mesh, and/or skin panels in the formation of a composite panel (e.g., a bonded mesh composite panel), which may in turn be used to provide a footwear upper and ultimately an article of footwear. The bonding agent is particularly applicable to fabrication processes utilizing a combination of heat and pressure for bonding or fusing material panels, each having a suitable composition, size, shape, and thickness, into the particular configuration of the footwear upper. 1. A shoe upper comprising at least a portion formed of a multilayered material comprising:(a) at least three nonwoven fiber layers, each fiber layer comprising a plurality of unidirectionally oriented fibers, wherein the fibers in a first one of the at least three nonwoven fiber layers form an angle in the range of −25° to −65° with respect to the fibers in another one of the at least three nonwoven fiber layers, and the fibers in a second one of the at least three nonwoven fiber layers form an angle in the range of +25° to +65° with respect to the fibers in another one of the at least three nonwoven fiber layers; and(b) a matrix material;wherein the multilayered material comprises elastic properties that allow the multilayered material to deform when stretched over a three dimensional mold.2.
