The selected part of the stack forms a bulge, and the outer composite layer has a greater path length at the bulge than the inner composite layer. After assembly of the stack, a bend is formed in the stack with the outer composite layer towards an outside of the bend and the inner composite layer towards an inside of the bend, the bend in the stack coinciding with the bulge. During or after formation of the bend in the stack, excess matrix material in liquid form flows out of the bulge.

This invention relates to the continuous bending and shaping of extruded profiles inline with an extrusion process and in an economic and rapid manner. The process takes advantage of the retained latent heat generated from an extrusion process to bend and shape a softened profile while protecting its walls and edges from linear or angular deformation. The process involves the winding and coiling of the incoming profile into helices around a jig that is attached to a rotatable mandrel. The process provides partially or fully bended closable frames and loops, wherein frame- like products using the process require only a single point of jointing to obtain a fully closed product.

Following cooling to below the extrusion's plastic deformation temperature on the mandrill, smoothly curved extrusions are removed for cooling to room temperature. Cured polymer foam within an extrusion cavity resists distortion of the cavity during the bending process.

A small shunt can be placed within the eye to aid in drainage of aqueous humor from the anterior chamber of the eye to a pocket between the conjunctiva and the sclera to be absorbed, or to secrete through the cornea or the sclera external to the eye for glaucoma or ocular hypertension treatment. This drainage can decrease the pressure of the eye and potentially modify the course of advancing glaucomatous optic neuropathy as it relates to eye pressure. A method of manufacturing a main body of a bicycle saddle includes the steps of attaching a cover layer to an inner wall of a mold cavity of a forming mold by vacuum suction to make the cover layer have a main area attached to the inner wall and a circumferential area around the main area, heating a base material in the mold cavity to form it into an elastomer and make the main area of the cover layer be combined with and fit the elastomer, combining a bottom shell with the elastomer, and folding back and fixing the circumferential area of the cover layer to a bottom of the bottom shell. 1. A method of manufacturing a main body of a bicycle saddle comprising the steps of:a) attaching a cover layer to an inner wall of a mold cavity of a forming mold by vacuum suction in a way that the cover layer has a main area attached to the inner wall of the mold cavity and a circumferential area located around the main area;b) heating a base material in the mold cavity of the forming mold to form the base material into an elastomer in a way that the main area of the cover layer is combined with the elastomer and fits the elastomer, and combining a bottom shell with the elastomer; andc) folding back the circumferential area of the cover layer to a bottom of the bottom shell and fixing the circumferential area of the cover layer at the bottom of the bottom shell.2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the base material used in the step b) is a liquid foamable material; in the step b) claim 1 , the liquid foamable material is injected into the mold cavity of the forming mold to be expanded and formed into the elastomer on the main area of the cover layer.3. The method of claim 1 , wherein in the step b) the bottom shell is combined with the elastomer in the forming mold while the base material is heated and formed into the elastomer.4. A composite hot drape vacuum forming method and apparatus. The apparatus includes an elongate vacuum chamber (12) having a lid (14) and a housing (16). A heating blanket (36) is located in the bottom of the vacuum chamber (12). The interior of the inflatable bladder is in fluid connection with the exterior of the vacuum chamber. Composite charges (40) are placed within the vacuum chamber on top of the vacuum bladder (28). Lay-up mandrels (42) are placed on top of the unformed composite charges and the vacuum chamber is closed and sealed. The composite charges (40) are heated using the heating blanket (36). The interior of the vacuum chamber is then evacuated. As the interior is evacuated, the inflatable bladder expands forming the composite charges (40) around the lay-up mandrels (42). After forming, the pressure in the interior of the vacuum chamber (12) is equalized and the lid (14) is opened. The formed composite charges and mandrels are then removed.

A curved multilayer structure (10) is formed from individual films (1, 2) which are initially planar. The films are firmly connected to each other along respective surfaces facing each other. A heat treatment is applied to one or both films (1, 2) of the structure so as to cause respective contractions or elongations which are different for the two films at the current temperatures of use. A gap between said contractions or elongations causes a curvature of the multilayer structure. The structure thus has a curved permanent shape, without the need for contacts between compression forming instruments and a useful part of the multilayer structure. Such a method is particularly useful for a multilayer structure that is intended to be applied to an ophthalmic lens.

A high speed plastic-forming process forms a curved wall section with a compound radius along the outer edge of a sheet of plastic foam material. The process includes first die cutting the flat sheet material to a shape having an initial edge curvature, followed by securing the die cut piece to a carousel which passes the curved outer edge section of sheet material past heaters that controllably heat the top and bottom surfaces of the moving curved edge section. The carousel then passes the pre-heated edge section into contact with an elongated stationary curved forming shoe along the outer edge of the carousel to progressively bend the pre-heated section into a curved wall section of compound radius. The carousel then passes the formed wall section into contact with an elongated stationary curved cooling rail extending around most of the outer edge of the carousel downstream from the forming shoe. The cooling rail holds the sheet material in the curved shape while the temperature is reduced sufficiently to stabilize it in a set configuration. The heating zone length and temperature and the relative lengths of the forming shoe and cooling rail are proportioned to allow continuous feeding of die cut pieces onto the carousel, with finished parts being formed and removed after one revolution of the carousel.

The bubble collapses around the inside radius and forms an overlapping flap of face sheet. The flap is pressed in a fold between the anvil and the bent leg of the panel, and the leg is held in the bent position while resin in the flap solidifies.
