Class 145 A hack-saw frame is raised and lowered by fluid-operated means under the control of a rotary valve 8 connected to a handle 15; the handle, when set in the lowering position, is held by a spring-loaded detent 16 but, at the end of the lowering movement, an abutment on the saw frame engages a striker 24 on a tappet 21 and, through a push-rod 19, link 18, levers 11, 10 and a rod 12, moves the valve and handle shafts 9, 13 to the frame-raising position. Initially, the movement of the tappet compresses a spring 23 and when the end of a bore in the tappet positively engages the top of the push rod the handle is moved free of the detent and the expansion of the spring assists the movement of the valve and handle shafts.
