Relieving-mechanism.-Relates to mechanism for relieving the weighing-parts of platformmachines, and comprises arrangements whereby the operations of placing in gear and relieving the weighing-mechanism are facilitated. The fulcrum of the transfer lever 4, Fig. 1, to which the weighing - levers are connected, is supported on the end of a lever 5 attached by a rod 6 to a pivoted lever 2. A weight 3 slides on the lever 2. With the lever in the upper dotted position, the weighing-levers are in the relieved position and the platform 1 rests on fixed supports. By depressing the lever 2 to the horizontal position, the loose movement of the weighing-levers is taken up, whereupon by traversing the weight 3 to the position shown by full lines the platform is raised into the weighing position. The lever 2 is retained by a catch and the weighing operation is performed by means of the steelyard 8. In a modification for weighing railway vehicles wherein the platform is raised so as to engage the wheels and lift them from the.track, the arrangement shown in Fig. 2 is used. The lever 12 with its sliding weight 3 carries a drum 17 by rotating which the loose movement of the weighing-levers may be taken up. The drum is connected by a rope or chain 16 to a lever 15, which by means of rods 23, 21 and levers 19 raises the fulcrums of the transfer lever 14 and of the weighing- levers (not shown) whereon the platform rests. The levers 19 and connexions 21 may be dispensed with.
