Improvements in or relating to auxiliary-air admission devices for internal combustion engines
Реферат: 496,409. Auxiliary air admission devices. ELLIS, A., and WILSON, D. June 12, 1937, No. 16392. [Class 7 (ii)] An auxiliary-air admission device is formed by a plate 1, Fig. 1, arranged between flanges on the induction pipe and the carburetter or formed in one of the flanges and is provided with one or more valve housings 13 admitting air to an annular groove 8 which communicates with a central bore 7 in the plate through tangential passages 9. Each valve housing contains two oppositely directed seating surfaces which co-operate with two valves 17, 21, Fig. 3, mounted on a common spring-pressed spindle 18, the valve 21 being closed to cut off the supply of extra air at high engine suctions. The valves may be actuated by suction or conjointly with the carburetter throttle. The annular groove may be formed in one face of an annular ring fitted into a recess in the plate, in one face of the plate and closed by a packing ring or, as shown in Fig. 4, the groove may be extended inwards from one face of the plate and closed by rings 45, 46 secured in position by a spun part of the plate. In Fig. 8, a valve housing 13 admits air through bores 56, 55 in screws 50 into passages 11a which communicate with opposite sides of the annular groove 8.
