Electromagnetic switches; switchboards; sparking, preventing.-Relates to the construction and assemblage of contactor switches for motor control and other purposes. Individual contactors are designed so that any required number can be grouped side by side on a common frame-work. Each contactor has its principal parts secured to a pair of vertical bars 15, Figs. 1 and 6, supported by upper and lower horizontal members 18, 13, which are common to all the contactors of a set. An arc shoot 6 of box-like form fitting round the contacts 2, 3, the arcing horns 4, 5, and the blow-out coil 21, is secured by a latching spring 111, and is provided with laterally extending fins 102 which, when all the contactors are in position side by side, form an insulating wall continuous except for the arc shoot openings. The upper arcing horn has the shape shown in Fig. 19 and is secured to the stationary frame; the lower arcing horn 5, Fig. 4, is attached to the contactor actuating member 36, which, in the electropneumatic switch illustrated, is the piston of a pneumatic cylinder 51, having a valve controlled by an electromagnet 73. The magnet core 67 is U-shaped and has a loose disc armature 69 resting on one of its limbs. Inlet pipes to all the valves are connected end to end to a pressure reservoir. Auxiliary wiping contacts 89, 91 are actuated simultaneously with the main contacts. The actuation may be effected by electromagnets instead of pneumatic means.
