[Also in Group XXVI] The Provisional Specification describes a fuel system for supplying spill burners at the tips of the jet-propelled rotor blades of a helicopter in which a centrifugal fuel pump is secured on the top of the rotor hub so as to rotate therewith, the pump impeller being driven by the rotor but at a much higher speed by means of planetary gears which engage a fixed gear ring attached to the helicopter fuselage. Fuel is supplied from a metering control located in the fuselage and is fed to the pump through a pipe extending upwardly through the hollow helicopter rotor support spindle. The fuel spilled from the burners is returned to the pump at a position radially inward of the pump discharge and therefore at a pressure lower than the discharge pressure. The centrifugal increase in fuel pressure due to rotation of the helicopter rotor acts equally on the supply and spill lines connected between the pump and the burners and therefore does not affect the pressure difference between these lines. The jet-propulsion means may be of the ram jet or pulse jet types.
