Improvements in or relating to launching torpedces from a flying machine
Реферат: 337,163. Bull, J. A. Oct. 3, 1929. Dropping bombs and other articles from a height; launching torpedoes.-A torpedo T launched from an aircraft A, for example by the release of a hook O, is given a movement of rotation transverse to its axis by a brake or delay release device at its tail, so that the torpedo may strike water with its axis substantially in the direction of its flight, thereby avoiding ricochet and undue strain. The brake may be a spring F, Fig. 1, attached to a bolt G secured to the torpedo by a pin P. An adjustable stop R limits the movement of the bolt G and the extension of the spring, and this causes the pin P to snap and release the tail of the torpedo a short time after the release of the hook O. In a modification, Fig. 2, the tail is held by a hook H which is released by the pull of a linkwork or of a line S operated by the nose of the torpedo when the torpedo drops from the hook 0; the line S passes over a pulley D on the aircraft, and its length determines the moment of release of the hook H.
