Jointing tools and apparatus.-Apparatus for tamping pipe joints comprises a powerdriven percussive tool mounted so as to be movable around the pipe, and fed axially. Rings 14, made in parts connected by bolts, and secured to the pipes by centring-screws 15, are connected by longitudinal bars 17, which also form guides for sliding members carrying a ring 20 of channel section. A pneumatic hammer of known kind operating a caulking- tool 45 is mounted on a ring 30 with wheels 31, 32, running in the guide-ring 20. The ring 30 is rotated by a rack 33, pinion 34, and handle 36. The sliding members with the ring 20 are moved along the pipes to feed the tool, by a ring 21 with cam-slots 22 engaging projections 23. The ring 21 is carried by wheels 24 running on annular guides, and is moved by a rack and pinion 27 and hand-wheel 29. The back stroke of the tool 45 is obtained by springs 49 bearing oa a yoke 50 which embraces the tool. The pneumatic hammers slide into place on the ring 30, and are held by a pivoted arm (not shown), having a projection which passes through the ring 30 and engages a recess in the hammer body.
