[Class 83 (iii)] A holder for supporting a boring-bar 12 or other tool in a lathe &c. comprises a body 18 for securing to the slide rest 10 having a central aperture for receiving the bar which is clamped against V-shaped faces 37 thereon by similar faces 49 on a yoke 24. The faces 37 are concentric with the axis of the lathe and are inclined at 45 degrees to the horizontal whilst the faces 49 are at 60 degrees. The yoke 24 is clamped by a stud 18a on the body and a nut 25. The body is secured to the slide rest by a central post 21, which is apertured at 44 for the'boring bar, engaging a machined bore 30,in the body and splined thereto by a dowel pin 22. A T-headed stud 20 screwed into the post 21 engages a slot 20b in the slide rest and a screwed extension 47 receives a clamping nut 23. The vertical position of the aperture 44 in the post 21 may be adjusted by the stud 20 and the body 18 may be adjusted angularly about the post to incline the bar to the axis of the lathe. Cutter-bars.-The boring bar 12 has apertures 16, 17 at opposite ends to mount a cutter inclined or perpendicular to the bar axis respectively, the cutter being secured by a grub screw 16b and the bar being provided with graduations x to facilitate setting in the holder 18.
