Driving gear.-A crank linkage is employed for transmitting rotary motion between shafts, and is stated to increase the power without interfering with the speed. The mechanism is applicable for propelling ships. The shaft 1 of an electric or other rotary motor is connected with a shaft 3 by a train of speed-reducing gearing. On the shaft 3 are mounted a flywheel and two crank-discs 4 with the crank-pins arranged at right-angles. Each of these pins is coupled by a rod 14 to a block 19 working in a guide 20. The long arm of a pivoted lever 12 is coupled to the block 19 by a pin-andslot connection, the short arm being coupled to a block 17 sliding in a guide 18. The block 17 is coupled to the driven shaft 15 by a connecting-rod 16 and crank.
