Radiators for motor road vehicles are constructed of sheet-metal plates bent and soldered together in such a way as to form front-to-back passages for the air, separated by vertical and horizontal passages for the water. A number of forms and arrangements of metal plates are described ; Figs. 3, 13, and 17 are typical examples. In Fig. 3, the air passages i are bounded on one side by flat plates, and on the three other sides by corrugations in plates h. In Fig. 13, all four sides of the air passages i are formed by corrugated plates, which, further, are so arranged that the water passages are oblique instead of vertical. In Fig. 17, the air passages are of octagonal shape, and the water spaces are interconnected by holes drilled in the plates as at m. In a further modification, Fig. 18, the water takes a zig-zag course along horizontal passages, and by means of movable plates o<1> two or more of these passages may be put in parallel, as shown in the lower part of the Figure, to obtain a more rapid water circulation when the weather is cold enough.
