Tongueing and grooving.-Relates to a machine for tongueing and grooving boards and pressing the joints together, more particularly for making boxes and is an improvement on the invention described in Specification No. 7842, A.D. 1901. Several boards are operated on simultaneously. Piles of boards of equal length are placed in the hoppers L, Fig. 3. The bottom board of each pile is fed forward by endless chains J on to another series of endless feed-bands E. Each board is held down by spring pressure rollers, which are, at the proper time, lifted by a pneumatic cylinder M<8> to allow the pneumatic pusher O<5> to push the boards over to one side of the feed-band into position to be operated upon by the tongueing and grooving cutters P. After one edge has been operated upon by the cutters P, the boards are pushed over to the other side by another pneumatic pusher R (the pressure rollers being lifted by another pneumatic cylinder), so that the opposite edges are tongued or grooved by cutters S, Fig. 4. The boards are now discharged on to a table with curved springs U, U<1>, which force the edges of the boards together, and deliver (in the example shown) three boards jointed together. The pneumatic cylinders are controlled by crank-pins F", which act through levers on their valves.
