Реферат: A method of providing a laminate armoured or bullet-proof shield, the method comprising: applying a substrate 44 including a porous structure to a first surface of a layer comprising a sheet-form curable material 40; applying a veneer element 33 to a second surface of the sheet-form material; providing one or more reinforcement fibres selected from carbon fibres, glass fibres, aramid fibres (e.g KEVLAR RTM) and/or polyethylene fibres; and applying pressure to press the veneer element, the sheet-form material, the reinforcement fibres and the substrate together to form the laminate shield. Preferably, there is provided a metal frame 46, another porous material 48, curable material 52 and veneer 54. The veneer 33, 54 is preferably wood. Preferably, the thermosetting, curable, sheet moulding compound (SMC) 40, 52 flows into the veneer 33, 54 during the heating and pressing step. Preferably, gas or vapour is displaced from the porous, open cell foam 44, 48. The laminate can be used as a door, building panel, furniture, vehicle fitting, window or picture frame, or bowl.
