A tank A containing the glaze or other liquid preparation supports vertical frames C on which slide counterbalanced holders B, each consisting of a tubular framing B', a hollow base B<2>, and one or more interchangeable, open-ended, vertical pipes B<3> fitted with rests B' which carry the vessels to be dipped. The holders B are lowered and raised in turn into and out of the liquid, sufficient holders being provided to allow the vessels on the first holder to dry by the time the last holder has been dipped. When the insides of the vessels are to be coated, the vessels are mounted on the pipes B<3> in the inverted position, as shown at K, and as the vessels are immersed the contained air passes through the pipes B<3> and escapes by an outlet J at the top of the framing B<1>. The outlet J may be fitted with a cock by means of which the liquid can be prevented from rising beyond a certain point within the vessel. Any liquid that enters the base B<2> during the dipping operation may be afterwards returned to the tank by opening a drain cock N. When only the outsides of the vessels are to be coated, the vessels are supported on the rests B<4> in the upright position, and are immersed up to the rim. Sealing- pads M may be inserted between the rests and the bottoms of the vessels. The rests B' are preferably mounted on the pipes B<3> on ball bearings, so that the vessels may be spun round after being dipped, to remove superfluous liquid.
