The crank axle a carries two bevel-wheels b<1>, b<2> gearing with bevel pinions d, d<2> on the ends of shafts d<7>, d<8> enclosed in the stay tubes d<13>, d<14>. These shafts are geared at their rear ends with the driving-wheel hub e<3> by bevel gearing e, c', d<3>, d<4>. The gear on one side of the cycle is arranged for speed and the other for power. The shafts d<7>, d<8> are movable longitudinally to put the gear in and out of action by the rotation of screw pins s<1>, s<2>, threaded sleeves p<1>, p<2> on which are provided with projections connected to the ball bearings p<5>, p<6>. The pins s', s<2> are rotated by turning a hand-wheel on the head which acts through bevel gearing and connecting-shafts enclosed in the frame, the pins being provided with bevel pinions s<3>, s<4>. In Fig. 1 the gear is shown arranged for power.
