Improvements in and connected with Street Sweeping Appliances.
Реферат: 24,788. Allen, R. Nov. 11. Sweeping-machines.-A road-sweeping machine shown in plan in Fig. 2 is constructed with two disc brushes f mounted on inclined spindles g and driven in opposite directions by bevel gearing m and chain gearing i from one of the supporting- wheels c. The brushes are raised or lowered by oscillating the frame a on the axle d. The brushes sweep dust or mud into a central ridge, or deliver it into a removable tray. In another machine, adapted to work close to the kerb, a single disc brush f, Fig. 3, is mounted on a spindle h working in a frame h<1>, which can be adjusted to any required angle by means of nuts h<3>. The frame a is supported at the front by a castor wheel c<1>, the stem c<3> cf which can be adjusted by a rack and pinion and secured at any required height by an eye-bolt c<6> and nut c<7>. The handles a<1> are adjusted by means of segmental slots a'. The brush spindle h is driven by bevel gearing and by one of two sets of chains and chain-wheels giving two different speeds. The two driving chain-wheels j<1>, k<1>, Fig. 5, are mounted loosely on a spindle d<1> driven by spur gearing j<2>, j<3> from the axle d of the main supporting-wheels c. Two discs k<2>, k<3> with projecting studs are feathered to the spindle d<1>, so that one or the other of them can be clutched to its respective chain-wheel j<1> or k<1> by means of a roller o<3> on a lever o fitted with a locking-pin for holding it in the required position. Bar magnets in the spur-wheel j<3> cause the return of the discs k', k'. The main wheels c are connected to the axle by ratchet clutches d' held in engagement by springs d<3> or bar magnets d<4>. The spindle d' is mounted in a yoke frame o<2>, which can be adjusted along concentric slots p, q for tightening the chains. These machines may be worked by horse or manual power. The Provisional Specification states that the machine may have a rotary brush mounted on a horizontal spindle ; that the collecting-tray has a hinged flap at its lower edge with a number of projections or spikes turned up at their ends to prevent the tray from catching stones ; that this flap may be in several narrow pieces so as to adapt itself to an uneven surface ; that auxiliary brushes or scrapers are mounted behind the main brushes to take the sweepings into a receptacle placed above ; and that the brush spindle may be driven direct from the road wheel by an annular toothed wheel and a pinion.
