Heat, distributing and equalizing. - To prevent straining from unequal expansion, and to promote efficiency, steam from the upper part of a boiler is circulated through coils of pipe, or other vessels having an extended surface, immersed in the lower part of the water space or in a separate chamber in connection therewith. The steam condensed in this coil or the like is conducted to a tank and returned to the boiler by pumps or gravity. In the arrangement shown, the pipe A conducts the steam to the coil B, whence the water of condensation is conducted through the spring-loaded valve F and trap G to the tank J. A float in the tank controls the supply of steam to the pumping- engine shown, which returns the water to the boiler. Arrangements in which the heating-coil is in an external chamber, and in which the tank J is elevated, so that the water returns by gravity, are illustrated in the Specification. The feedwater may be supplied to the external chamber when one is used.
