Vapour burners.-Relates to oilheated steam generators for autovehicles and other purposes, and to means for controlling the supply of oil and air to the burner. The burner, which, together with the steam generator, is preferably arranged horizontally, consists of an annular oil-vaporizing chamber a, Fig. 1, surrounding a mixing- chamber d, and an air - heating chamber b surrounding the combustion chamber. The vaporizing- chamber is provided with baffles a<5>, and the air-heating chamber with gills b<5>. Oil from the pipe c falls on the inner wall of the vaporizing - chamber, and the vapour, with air from the chamber b, passes in a tortuous manner a r o u n d the baffles a<5> to the entrance d<5> of the chamber d, whence it passes through the perforations d', where it is ignited. The flame is broken up by a perforated block e. A gauze plate at d<3> prevents back-firing. At starting, the burner is heated by the gases from a lamp which circulate through the casing. The burner is ignited by means of the tube f. The steam generator shown consists of a coil of tubing h, but other forms may be used, and the generator may be otherwise disposed relatively to the burner. Fig. 4 shows the arrangement of the generator, motor, and appurtenances on an auto-vehicle, together with the means employed for supplying oil and air and regulating the supply. The generator is shown at i<1>. Oil is supplied through the pipe r by a pump m', and air by a fan p, both being driven by a small independent motor m. The pressure governor o may act to control valves on the oil pump and fan.
