Steam - generator furnaces firebridges; baffles; flues, cleaning. - A fireclay arch and baffles are arranged beyond the firebridge of a Lancashireboiler furnace, to direct the flames and hot gases against the walls of the flues. Steam and air are forced into the bottom of the flue through a blast pipe, for clearing it of dust. The arch 8 is composed of sections, which are tongued and grooved to fit into each other. They are supported by rails 9, which rest upon the brackets 7. The space between the arch and the flue at the inner end is closed by bricks 10 forming a baffle, which causes the gases to pass down the sides of the arch to the main flue. Steam is supplied to the flue from the boiler by a flexible pipe 16, which may be connected to a pipe 13 within the pipe 11. The end of the pipe 11 is open, so that air passes in with the steam, and finally escapes through the jets 12.
