Apparatus for shredding leather consists of a feed-board 24 having the leather scraps 25 glued to its upper surface with the flesh side outwards, and a shredding-cylinder 13 round the body or core 14 of which a strip 15 of leather or flexible material with projecting teeth 16 is helically wound. The board is fed by corrugated rollers 11, 12 along a bed 10 under the rotary cylinder 13, and the shredded leather is carried up the cowl or hood 23 by suction. In another arrangement, the leather scraps are attached to the board by means of shallow teeth. The feed-support may consist of an endless toothed carrier, or of a cylinder similar to the shredding-cylinder 13. Or the shredder may be formed as an endless toothed belt. The shredder may be stationary, and the work only move.
