[MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] A process for the production of optically active β-hydroxy-α-aminocarboxylic acid derivatives represented by the general formula (2) or (3): [wherein R¹ is substituted or unsubstituted C_1-20 alkyl or a substituted or unsubstituted C_4-12 aromatic group; and R² is substituted or unsubstituted C_1-20 alkyl or a substituted or unsubstituted C_4-12 aromatic group], characterized by hydrogenating an α-aminoacylacetate ester represented by the general formula (1): [wherein R¹ and R² are each as defined above] through catalytic asymmetric hydrogenation in the presence of an acid.
