The additional reactants specified are monochloroethane, 1,2-dichloroethane, chloroform and 1,2,2-trichloroethane. The fluidizing gas may be the chlorine, optionally diluted with hydrogen chloride or nitrogen, or may be air, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, hydrogen chloride or a vaporized organic compound, e.g. perchloroethylene. The vaporized chlorinated residues may be partly reacted and the exit gases then led to a further reactor, in which case the fluidizing gas may act as a diluent for the later reaction. Disclosed is a system of making an olefin derivative from a dilute olefin feed. Dilute olefin (1) is sent to an olefin reaction unit (3) to form an olefin derivative product. The olefin derivative product (4) is recovered from the reaction unit while a vent stream (5) is also removed. A portion of the vent steam may be recycled back to the reaction unit via line (9). The vent stream is sent to an olefin separation unit (6), where an olefin stream (7) is recovered and returned to the olefin reaction unit for additional processing. The non-olefin compounds are removed via purge (8). Using appropriate recycle of vent gas within the olefin reaction unit allows the use of a high quality olefin stream in the olefin reaction process with a reduced risk of equipment fouling and catalyst contamination, while maintaining a high product quality.

Disclosed is a system of making an olefin derivative from a dilute olefin feed. Dilute olefin (1) is sent to an olefin reaction unit (3) to form an olefin derivative product. The olefin derivative product (4) is recovered from the reaction unit while a vent stream (5) is also removed. A portion of the vent steam may be recycled back to the reaction unit via line (9). The vent stream is sent to an olefin separation unit (6), where an olefin stream (7) is recovered and returned to the olefin reaction unit for additional processing. The non-olefin compounds are removed via purge (8). Using appropriate recycle of vent gas within the olefin reaction unit allows the use of a high quality olefin stream in the olefin reaction process with a reduced risk of equipment fouling and catalyst contamination, while maintaining a high product quality.

The apparatus of the present invention has the advantage that, via a guide tube and a gas admission chamber, both heat exchangers are interconnected to form a unit. The fixed point of this unit is located near the middle so that the hot part of both heat exchangers is allowed to expand freely.

An improved method of removing heat from polymerization reactions of normally gaseous monomers in the gas phase comprising feeding the monomer in liquid form to a polymerization zone, immediately after entering said zone, removing a portion of said gaseous monomer from the polymerization zone, liquefying said portion of monomer by cooling it at the same pressure as that prevailing in the polymerization zone, recycling the liquefied monomer to the polymerization zone together with fresh monomer in liquid form and causing said liquid monomer to change to the gaseous form immediately after entering said zone. The improvement consists in not only condensing the monomer outside the polymerization zone but also storing the same, in keeping the temperature in the polymerization zone constant by regulating the rate at which liquid monomer is fed to the zone, and in keeping the temperature and pressure in the polymerization zone within limits conducive to the gaseous state of the monomer.

Disclosed is a system of making an olefin derivative from a dilute olefin feed. Dilute olefin (1) is sent to an olefin reaction unit (3) to form an olefin derivative product. The olefin derivative product (4) is recovered from the reaction unit while a vent stream (5) is also removed. A portion of the vent steam may be recycled back to the reaction unit via line (9). The vent stream is sent to an olefin separation unit (6), where an olefin stream (7) is recovered and returned to the olefin reaction unit for additional processing. The non-olefin compounds are removed via purge (8). Using appropriate recycle of vent gas within the olefin reaction unit allows the use of a high quality olefin stream in the olefin reaction process with a reduced risk of equipment fouling and catalyst contamination, while maintaining a high product quality.

Solid membranes comprising an intimate, gas-impervious, multi-phase mixture of an electronically-conductive material and an oxygen ion-conductive material and/or a mixed metal oxide of a perovskite structure are described. Electrochemical reactor components, such as reactor cells, and electrochemical reactors are also described for transporting oxygen from any oxygen-containing gas to any gas or mixture of gases that consume oxygen. The reactor cells generally comprise first and second zones separated by an element having a first surface capable of reducing oxygen to oxygen ions, a second surface capable of reacting oxygen ions with an oxygen-consuming gas, an electron-conductive path between the first and second surfaces and an oxygen ion-conductive path between the first and second surfaces. The element may further comprise (1) a porous substrate, (2) an electron-conductive metal, metal oxide or mixture thereof and/or (3) a catalyst. The reactor cell may further comprise a catalyst in the zone which comprises a passageway from an entrance end to an exit end of the element. Processes described which may be conducted with the disclosed reactor cells and reactors include, for example, the partial oxidation of methane to produce unsaturated compounds or synthesis gas, the partial oxidation of ethane, substitution of aromatic compounds, extraction of oxygen from oxygen-containing gases, including oxidized gases, ammoxidation of methane, etc. The extraction of oxygen from oxidized gases may be used for flue or exhaust gas cleanup.
